i have been researching some info on becoming legal and came across the whole Labeling requirement issue.

does everyone add a label of ingredients on their cake boxes? what about wedding cakes that may be too large to be put in a cake box? do you just include a piece of paper in the initial consultation with the bride?

just curious. TIA

I am not required to lable my cakes since I don't have a store front where customers walk in to purchase baked goods. I believe thats the only time that its required as a decorator with a seperate kitchen you are providing a service and not necessarly selling to the public. Check with your health inspector.

In PA I believe you just have to do it if your products are being sold at an outside or retail location. If you are selling baked goods right out of your home straight to individual customers, I think labeling is not necessary according to what I've read in the Dept of Agriculture.

If you are in Ohio you have to have a label. It must state the name of the product, net wt., all the ingredients (and the ingredients that make up the ingredients you are using--hope that makes sense) in order from most to least and business name plus contact info for the business.

In Texas you have to have a label ONLY on self-serve products. You should call your health inspector and ask them about your area.
