I am looking to start cake decorating at of my home. Nothing too fancy, yet. Mostly for family and friends. Could you please tell me the "rules" for baking out of your home in Nebraska? I looked at the Sec of State website and couldn't find what I was looking for. Thanks!!!

I have seen about 3 or 4 others of us on this site.

The laws in Nebraksa are pretty strict (at least here in Lancaster county). Start by calling your county health department, but here is what mine told me:

Since there are no laws for small businesses, the small busniness must comply to the same standards as the big businesses.

Walls, ceiling, cabinets, ect. made of a washable material
3 compartment sink
seperate hand washing sink
floor draining mop station
it can be in a seperate building on your property (need approval from zoning)
it can be in your residence, but cannot take up more than 20% of your residence (also need approval from zoning)
must be able to be completely closed off from the rest of the house
grease trap may be required
venting hood may be required
I think you are also required to have "comercial" appliances (stove, oven, refrigeration, etc.)
I think you are also not allowed to have pets
food handlers level 3 permit required

I just called the health department and asked for a packet to be sent to me. They were very helpful.
