Your cakes and display are absolutely stunning!! I'm sure that you will get much business from this! Great job!!
p.s. Isn't it amazing how chocolate cheers everyone up, 2 year olds and mommies alike!
Lisa ... the cake display looks absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Hopefully your phone will be ringing off the hook with orders!! I'm sorry to hear about all of the stress leading up to this, but you handled it very well!!!
P.S. - I love your business cards! Did you make them yourself, or did you order them somewhere??
Spottydog,
First...I bow down to you..."I'm not worrthy!!' What an excellent display!! I absolutely LUV your cakes, and I am sure the exposure alone will be tenfold of a mere $82.00. I hope for much business for you, but not so much that it overwhelms you. I can only think of positive outcomes of this display. Orders, inquires, word of mouth, ooohhs and aaahhhs, -- take a breather and take you and your little lion out for a nice little lunch...you BOTH deserve it! Give him a big ol' lion hug! GREAT JOB once again!!!
That is absolutely beautiful!
Your story made me laugh (because I can sympathize with you).
Years ago I signed up for an 8 week cake decorating class. The first cake we had to make was a character cake. I made the cute little mouse cake and put it on the cake board and set it on the edge of the table to cool. I got busy doing something else and DH came in the house and let the dogs in the kitchen. I kept hearing this "clinking" noise so I went around the corner and to my horror the "clinking" noise I was hearing was the dog's rabies tag bouncing up and down and she would jump up take a bite off the cake. I screamed, DH came running and the dog just looked at me (with a mouth full of cake crumbs) like I had lost my mind. She ate both of the feet off my cake. I had to start baking another cake for class the next night. I learned a very valuable lesson that night.
Luby that was too funny......Glad I am not alone with the whole dog cake fiasco. Thanks for the chuckle! LOL
You're definitely not alone! I got a wild hair and decided to make the cake for my own bridal shower, and had an even wilder hair thinking it would be no big deal and that I'd wait till the last possible minute to start on it. 10:00pm the night before the shower I was sitting at Starbucks thinking how I probably needed to get going lol. "It's just the wonder mold pan, no big deal". riiiiiiighhhtt.
So, I bake, ice, make fondant, etc etc. and I covered the cake around 3:00 am, turn my head for 2 seconds, turn back around and the front of the dress was totally gone. I screamed in shock and then screamed again to yell at the dog, then realized it was 3am and I was going to be arrested after the neighbors call the cops..
Thank God it was for my OWN shower so I could carve away the chewed up part and fill it in with scraps instead of having to bake everything all over again.
All that just to say that I feel your pain!
Great job on the display! Kudos to you for getting it all there by yourself......you done good !!!
Well I have been dreading giving the update to how everything went I went to pick up my display cake. Not alot of damage (i actually expected more damage) which is the good news. All the staff said it tasted unbelievable......Another I asked how business was the the event and here it comes.......she says wasn't as busy as expected. I asked if there were any business cards left.....she hands me the bag still FULL! They never handed them out with the slices of cake as discussed!
Not sure what to think. I guess everyone needs to start somewhere. Hopefully I will at the least get an order from one of the staff.
Thanks everyone for the kind words....Better luck next time

okay, so you NEVER told me this part of it--that seems a little dishonest on their part, to me. wasn't that part of the deal?? i'm so sorry that things didn't go any better--hopefully customers will think about that yummy cake & wonder where the jewelry store got it from & call them--also i think you should have them put out your cards for the next month to compensate you for not handing them out to start with
edited to add:
okay maybe it's because i consider you a really good friend, but that just pisses me off the more i think about it
Awwwww ... that's terrible!!!!!! All that hard work on your part, and they didn't even keep their end of the bargain?!?! I'm so upset for you!!!!!!
I am disgusted that they didn't hand out your cards!!! Horrible!
But your cake looked so amazing I am sure that whoever went in noticed it...I saw you had a big sign beside your cake...perhaps people they will remember your name...at any rate, you should go back and tell them to give out your cards
this cake is simpley beautiful!!!!!!!!!!and I just looked at your pics and I am in AWE of your work.you don't need to worry about getting buisness thats for sure
WoW, Spotty!
Seriously very gorgeous work. I LOOOOVVE the holly cake--really nice proportion of color to white in that one!
So shi++y that they didn't give out your cards, though; That bites.
However, I think you'll roll in the cash from orders, soon! I'd chase down whomever made these lovely cakes, if I walked up on them in a mall!!
Best of luck on this,
--Knox--
Thanks guys......Like I said before I am "trying" to look at this in a positive that I got the opppertunity to begin with and I will keep chugging along....just elsewhere.
Still little bitter though....ARGGGG
All i can say is Wow!
And I be thinking of having Dog Chops for dinner. LOL (just kidding)
So sorry to hear about your dogs...wow..you are great to remake the cake so fast! and so much patience. I would of lost it!!! But your cake is stunning and I love your presentation!!!
Sorry to hear they didn't hold up to their end of the deal. Seems like they basically broke a verbal agreement that they should have been legally bound to. I would have been ticked!
But...the whole display was absolutely STUNNING!!
