I am going to purchase a clay gun. Michael's has a few. Mistakingly, I did buy the $4.99 one, what a surprise it was a piece a junk! They also have one for around $30. Or do I just purchase the one from sugarcraft? Any expert advice greatly needed!

Personally, if you are willing to spend at least the $30, I would put in the extra $$ to get the sugarcraft gun. I had one of the metal clay extruders from Michael's and hated it. I could never get the right grip on it to really get anything except for frustrated. With the sugarcraft gun, you can load more fondant or gumpaste and the squeeze handle is a dream. I htink that was one of my best investments.

I would go with the sugarcraft gun too. It is so much easier to use with the squeeze handle. I just add a little crisco to my fondant so it isn't too stiff to extrude.

I have one of the smaller metal ones and I like it but it is really hard to push the fondant through the smaller holes. I may have popped a couple blood vessels trying to extrude the trim for my VW cake, LOL. And that's after I added crisco to it... I LOVE being able to make perfect ropes and strips!!!

Can anyone recommend a good sugarcraft gun and where to buy it?

Courtney

Exactly! That was what my problem was--no natter how soft the fondant or gumpaste was.

Michaels is carrying a new one that is fantastic. It has a screw-type pusher so there is no effort pushing the clay through the gun. It will allow you to add more clay for a very long piece. It comes in a great tray with a bunch of the shaping discs.

I got mine with the 40% off coupon. It is listed in my Michaels for 29.99.

I apologize for not remembering the name, but it won't be hard to find. It is green metal.

I am so glad that someone asked this question. I almost bought one from a cake shope in Houston. It was all plastic and the size of the disks were about the size of a dime. Glad I decided to wait untill I could afford the sugarcraft gun.

Thanks!!!

The one I've had my eye on is at sugarcraft.com for I think $35.
