Hi Everyone.
I have been striving to get nice shiny cookie glaze for years. I've tried Toba's recipe, Sarah Philips recipe and my own basic powdered sugar, flavoring and water recipe to no avail. Sometimes I'd get the white flecks in the icing when they dried or they would just dry with a dull finish.

This time for Halloween, I needed to make black bats and orange pumpkins. I decided to try Sugarcraft's recipe -which is simply using dry fondant, flavor and water. For whatever reason, it works like a charm. Dries stackable and firm - but not has hard as royal...and I really thought it was great because I tried Lorann Princess Cake and Cookie flavoring/emulsion instead of vanilla and it was out of this world. They were shiny and I used Americolor super black and all I needed was a couple drops. These were pitch black bats! (I did use wilton orange and the pumpkins were equally vibrant).

Some compare Creme Bouquet to the Princess flavoring, but for me, the Princess wins hands down. CB is a little citrusy and the princess isn't. The princess flavoring is vanilla with a stronger sweeter smell and taste.

The dry fondant must be pulverized to the point where it really dissolves well. And I used warm water instead of cold.

Just thought I'd share my discovery!
Thanks!!!!

Where do you get this princess flavoring? I've never heard of it. I've been wanting to try creme bouquet, but always forget to pick some up at my cake supply shop.

Sugarcraft sells it, as well as King Arthur Flour. I think places that carry the Lorann oils might carry it because it is made by them. Countrykitchens USA carries it too.

It smells like heaven. Bakery vanilla. No citrus flavor too it...just sweet smelling vanilla++++

Those look great! Thanks for posting them! When you talk about the 'dry fondant' is it like a powder you can buy??

Yes, it is a powder. I think it is pulverized confectioners sugar with maybe corn starch or something added. Don't let that fool ya. It tastes the same as just powdered sugar in a glaze.

I bought mine at sugarcraft.com but many local cake decorating stores carry it. Not Michaels or AC Moore though.

I've been looking for a shiny icing too, and your cookies look great! Does the dry fondant icing dry hard enough to stack?
