Ok so I completed my 2nd wedding cake & delivery today. The bride called while we were setting up & invited me to attend twice before we hung up. I did not know her prior to doing her cake. But she was so nice & laid back so I thought why not? At least I could get a double 07 scoop to how others saw my cakes. I did take her a card & a 20 gift card to Target I felt a lttle wierd showing up empty handed. I made a coupke of contacts with other vendors. I mentioned this to my mom & she thought it was bizaree & tacky. What do you honestly think? Thanks

I think that it was really sweet of her to invite you to attend her wedding and reception. I'm sure that she felt close to you after the entire process of planning her cake and everything that goes into it. It is a bit unusual, but really nice of her.

Hope you had fun, and that everyone loved the cake!

I've had invites also, but I've declined them all for the simple fact that every person who attends the wedding is to uphold and support this couple at all times. I take every word at a wedding to heart and it's really hard to help in that responsability when you only know the couple because they ordered a cake from you. Unfortunately, people don't truley listen to what is being said by the preacher until he gets to the vows. Too bad because it might make people think a little harder before taking the plunge. (too many divorces, myself included)

So...as someone who got married a mere almost three months ago, I can tell you that it is not considered "tacky" to invite your vendors to the celebration; it is actually a nice gesture. I found this out a little late and wished I had done it. And a gift would not have been expected.

Keonicakes - I totally understand what you're saying; however, not all wedding are religious - some are just excuses to celebrate a lovely and already quite committed relationship in a big way with a lot of fun people. If you like your vendors, appreciate what they've done for you, and want to offer them a good party, there's nothing wrong with them attending. I would guess this is what the people who have invited you may have been thinking, although I could be wrong! icon_smile.gif

Just mho.

PS - heavenscent - re-read your post and actually, it may have been a little tacky to invite you at the last minute...although it had probably just slipped the poor bride's mind ahead of time!

sorry I should have been more clear. My mom & I did not think it was tacky that she invited me last minute. My mom thought it was tacky that I showed up to the recption. I thought it was a sweet gesture of the bride. I have not done that many weddings so not sure what was crossing the line. I forgot to mention I sat next to the cakes so I could see them cut etc. The groom noticed me when they were cutting the grooms cake looked right at me & gave a huge smile & thumbs up. I thought that was so sweet.

Heavenscent, I think the bride was so proud of your cake that she wanted everyone to know who made it and hoped that other people would want you to do cakes for them also. What a compliment. icon_biggrin.gif
