If anyone knows or has instructions to make lilacs that would be great. My grandma is turning 70 and I am the cake maker in my family. I have great memories picking lilacs with her every spring on her lilac farm. Her birthday is not until Oct. but it is something that I would have to pratice and get the hang off. I have not used very much with fondant and I am a little intimdated by it, so buttercream would be my preference..... Anyways I have to say that I have seen some of the most beautiful cakes here and I am so glad to have stumbled upon this website. I have been inspired to get out there and stretch my talent. Thanks for sharing.....

well you can do lilacs right on your cake, with buttercream or you can do the little flowers up a head of time in royal and stick them on the cake.
All you really need to do is pipe an elongated shell in green. The head of the shell will be the base of the flower. Then using a tip 101, or 59 make little 4 petal flowers on the shell. you want to pretty much cover the whole thing. You could make them on a flower nail with buttercream and freeze, but you will have to work quickly to get them on the cake.
I have some really great instructions for lilacs, I've tried to upload them for you about 4 times now and the page keeps saying done but is blank ! I'll have to try to PM you with it, I know you'll love these, and their not hard at all, you can use regular buttercream icing right on the cake, their beautiful!

I checked out the Wilton site first but not inpressed with the instructions. I think I need to SEE what I'm doing on this one. Sometimes just a picture of the completed item helps a lot. For some reason I just cant picture what it is i'm doing. And what I'm picturing is not what I need I"M SURE!!
I was trying to post them on here still, I have no idea why it won't upload in here!? If I put it in my photos, would that work, would everyone be able to pull it up from there and print it out? We can try that I'm going to put the instructions in my photos and see. Someone let me know if you can print them out from there. Tirby, there's a pic of them on the instructions to, that might help
cakesbgood, Thank you so much it is exactly what I needed. I've seen these instructions somewhare before? But cant put my finger on it . And it prints out great!!
Your welcome! Glad I could help, I'm glad it uploaded in there to!! So everyone can get the instructions for them
THANK YOU so much! These are just perfect!
Quick question - how many little flowers do you need to make one 6" stem? TIA!
I haven't had the opportunity to do a cake with these yet, but I've practiced them on the practice board. I never really counted the flowers lol, sorry. I just did it until it was completely covered and looked full enough. I tried it with just some small drop flowers in buttercream to, they come out really pretty either way. The only thing I know to tell you is to make alot of the little flowers until you think it looks like it would be enough to cover however many your making, if your going to use the royal icing and make them ahead of time. Or make a few of the flowers up and kind of hold them along it while you count out about how many it might take to cover, you may be able to get a close estimate? Sorry I couldn't be more help

Now that sounds so much easier! What tip did you try this with? I will be doing this right on the cake if possible!
I used the tip 133 for small drop flowers on it. You could use the large 2D tip to probably, depending on how big you were going to make them, that would be some pretty large lilacs though I imagine lol, guess it would depend on the size of the cake
I'm so glad everyone liked these, I can't wait to see cakes on here with lilacs on them now lol !! I might just make one just to make it now

Ditto! I'm going to make one this afternoon. Shall we do some tests?
Drop flowers
Individual petals
Sugared lilacs
Any others to test??
Lilac colors -
The variations in flower colors are every shade of purple and blue with the occasional white or red thrown in.
Also pink and yellow! Found ivory as well, and flowers up to a foot long!
That's what I found online, at least. A lilac for any color scheme!
I can't do one that soon LOL. I have some b-day cakes to get started on first. I can't wait to see how your's turn out!!! I can't imagine any color NOT looking good, I'm sure whatever color is used will make a beautiful flower! Which are you going to do first? drop, individual or sugared?
I was asked what book these came out of, it's the older The Wilton Way of Cake Decorating, Volume Two. Just in case anyone else wants to know. There are instructions for state flowers for 50 states in it so if anyone wants anymore info on a certain state flower I can give you the instructions if you don't have the book Just let me know!
No, this one doesn't have those in it , I'm sorry. Maybe someone else has some directions for those that they can give us
FINALLY lol! Ok, I gotta go to my sons first baseball practice of the season so if I don't get back with anyone right away, I'll be back on later this evening!
Thank you so much. The lilacs will be perfect. I know I saw them somewhere. My friend has that book.
