I need your help coming up with a price for these cookies. A guy who works with my husband wanted these cookies for a friend of his (obviously a girl...not a girlfriend icon_lol.gif ) He didn't care what design I used he just liked the taste of them and wanted a dozen. I just don't know what to charge him. Can someone help me come up with a fair price?

I would say 2 dollars each...so 24 bucks for the dozen. I think that is fair. The designs are so pretty, but not super complicated to make, so for 12 you could make them pretty quickly. Of course, I am horrible at coming up with a price for things...but that is what I would charge for those.

Thank you KHalstead! I think they are about 4 1/2 to 5 inches big. They spread for some reason while they were baking.

Dear pokeyanne,

Check to see what the going rate is for your area, but for 4.5-5 inch cookies, I get anywhere from $3-5 depending on the intricacy of the design.

If you check out the websites for designer cookies, those places are getting about $7 per cookie and you know that they are not as fresh as yours and probably don't taste the same either. icon_wink.gif

Love the colours too - very classy. You might keep the price a little lower, since you only have two colours to mix. I would charge at least $3 (Can.$) each though.

Thanks guys!! I wasn't even thinking I could ask 2.00 a cookie. More like $1-1.50 range. The whole reason I went with the pink and brown color combo is because I bought these really cute boxes to put the cookies in. But, after they spread soooo stinkin' much they wouldn't fit in the box. icon_sad.gif I knew I wouldn't get very much out of them since they didn't have much detail or color verations to them. Certainly not as much time and effort as my teacher bouquets took. Now those I charged $30.00 for and didn't think twice about feeling like I was ripping someone off. icon_smile.gif

Bummer about the box! Your cookies are beautiful. When figuring a price, I try to take into account how many of the cookies I can complete in one hour. Then I decide what I'd like my "salary" to be ($12/hour? $15/hour?). Divide your hourly rate by the number of cookies to get your price per cookie. (Only 5 cookies per hour? That's $3.00 each if you want $15/hour). If the number seems reasonable, I go with that, and always have a base price that you won't go below. (Like $1.50 per cookie).

Your cookies are beautiful, I love the icing it looks so neat and shiny. I would go with $2.00 each. Too bad you could not fit them in that beautiful box.

I love your cookies!!! I would go with $2.00 each. Even if this girl isn't his girlfriend, he cares enough about her to order these cookies special for her. He'll gladly pay the $24.00!!

NOOOO 1.50 is way too cheap and not worth your time. If you are going to get in a habit of selling your cookies, don't get in a habit of undercharging. It will become hard to raise your prices and you will realize that your time and work is worth way more. I charge 4 for cookies that size.

Glad you got lots of advice on the pricing already because I can't help you there, But I just had to tell you that your cookies are stunning! I just have to know what icing you used, if you don't mind!

Really Really beautiful!

I would love to charge between $3-$5 for my cookies, but no one here would likely pay that price!!!! A lot of times, unfortunately, where you live has a huge impact on your pricing. If I lived in NY City or LA or Dallas or Toronto, I could definitely charge a lot more than what I'm charging now. I only charge about $1.50 a cookie. Wish I could charge more, since they are SO time consuming!!!! Maybe someday............... icon_smile.gif

Please tell him your price BEFORE you hand them to him. It's important that someone knows the price before they feel obligated to pay for something. It avoids any surprises or hard feelings.

Thanks everyone for you suggestions. I ended up not charging him at all. When I found out they were for a friend of his that altered my bridesmaid dress last summer I decided not to charge. She didn't charge me to alter my dress so I felt it was only fair. I did however find out from my husband that he was prepared to pay $5.00 a cookie. icon_eek.gif Can you believe that!!! icon_surprised.gif I would have never accepted that but it made me feel good. If I had charged him I was thinking along the lines of $1.50 a cookie especially since they wern't that complex. I just can't imagine paying $5.00 a cookie. wow! Thanks again for all your advice.icon_smile.gif

Your cookies lookes great! And so worth $5 a cookie. You would be surprised how much people will pay for a good decorated homemade cookie! Keep up the great work, that was nice of you to give them to her since she worked on your dress, she will remember that !
