The worst part of the move is starting over trying to get your name out!! Anyway.....aaarrgghhhh

What's it like living in the Atlanta area? Are the alot of cake supply stores and resources or events???

Thanks for your help!!

I live south of Atlanta and it is my understanding that rules are very strict. From what I have read, you basically have to have a separate kitchen with certain requirements to sell from your home. They tried to pass a law that stated as long as you didn't sell more than $2000/year and you marked your items as homemade and from a non-inspected kitchen you were okay. It didn't pass. I haven't done a lot of research but when I took the classes at Michael's the instructor said if you were caught there is a hefty fine. I would love to know all of this isn't so but I am still rather new and haven't gotten to the point of selling anything. Please post if you find anything different.

Atlanta is a great place and I am sure you will love it icon_smile.gif

I have heard the same thing as 2xMiMi. You have to have a separate kitchen that is not in your place of residence. Everything that 2xMiMi said is the same thing that I have heard.

I used to live in North Carolina but my husband I moved back to Atlanta due to a lot of family problems. We are happy to be close to family and back in our own home.

I live in Forsyth county, north of Atlanta. We went to county courthouse over the summer and were told (by lady who approves home business licensing) that if it is not wholesale you can get licensed. No license you shouldn't advertise, if you advertise and do not have a license there is fine if you are caught.

She said no need for separate kitchen or home inspection. Again, that is what I was told by court official.

We are going next month to see about licensing, so I'll post back then.

To Bake in your home for sale to public, you have to have a separate kitchen that is not used by the family. You can contact the GA Department of Agriculture for the speciffics. It's really not that bad. But Do follow the Rules here, fines are very costly. I heard about a lady Who had been baking cakes and she got caught selling from her home, The fine was something like $5,000 Dollars first offence.

I live in Jasper GA and want a Specialty Bakery like in NY city.

I heard as well that you have to have a separate kitchen, but when I asked the lady said no.

I do have a separate kitchen available to me at my sister's house. She does not live in it and the kitchen hasn't been used in three years. If I need a separate kitchen, I'm hoping that would count as one. icon_biggrin.gif
