I was playing around on the internet and found this great free tutorial on Lambeth style cakes if any of you are interested!

That's not bad Danielle, but it really is more of an American modified version of Lambeth work. It's pretty, but not as intricate. Here is one by the Winbecklers that is more a true Lambeth design. I have tried 3 times to link to this page of his website and each time I go to open it, it takes me to a Cake Central page. So, here is the cake photo and it is Ronald Winbecklers Lambeth style cake.
Thank you! I came across this photo during my search, but didn't know the true difference b/w the tutorial and the real thing. I can only HOPE to be as good as that picture some day!
Well it's still a pretty way to do a cake. Here is a comparison of two cakes I have done in the Lambeth style. The first one is buttercream, the second is royal icing, which is what Joseph Lambeth used in his style of decorating. As you can see you get more definition and a more delicate design with royal icing.

Holy Mary, Mother of God. What intricate, time-consuming work, but an absolutely STUNNING finished product. I have two children under the age of two, so I think it'll be a few years before I can try anything like that, but I'm determined to learn how to do it! Do you know of any classes right now that are available? Even Bronwen's Lambeth style isn't as good as yours!
Thank you Danielle. I took Edith Gates Lambeth class in Long Beach in 1964. I have heard there is someone teaching Lambeth in San Diego but am not sure who she is. You might contact the San Diego Cake Club and see if they have any information.

In San Diego, Kathy, an ex-Wilton teacher, for 20 years, teaches Lambeth courses. PM me if you want her email address. Her Lambeth 2 cake class starts in October. When I get to it, I'll post the 2 cakes we did in class 1. Her Lambeth cake won first place in a competition when she was about 17 years old. She's good!
Those are so awesome and would help me learn my piping more steadly. I really want to try one of these for my MIL. I think she might love it. Your works is OMG GREAT!!
Oh Shirley, your cakes are so beautiful. I like your Lambeth cakes better than the Lambeth cake on the tutorial or even the ones I've seen by Lameth. Your Lambeth cakes have a more modern flair. I can't imagine how much time a Lambeth cake takes. The tutorial has 14 steps of different tips.
They are gorgeous designs, and I have to say that Shirley's are absolutely spectacular!
I just went back to that website, and they have several other tutorials, too. I'm not sure of the quality of the designs, but they may be good for practice. (Not sure that Shirley needs any!)
Lambeth is such a wonderful design method, most of my recent cakes involves methods from the lambeth book.
When you master the technique you get hooked!
Thanks everyone. I just don't do them any longer because they are time intensive and no one wants to pay the price or eat royal icing on a cake either. Here is one I am most proud of, the final class cake we did at Edith Gates school in '64. It was all white with tiny pink 101s apple blossoms.

If you are serious about learning the method look for Joseph Lambeths book at Albris or eBAY. I paid $29.00 for the book in 1964, the most I had ever spent on a book at the time. I now see it going for around $200.00
Lambeth Method Of Cake Decorating And Practical Pastries.
I just looked at your cake from your final class. Even though the cake was from 1964 it doesn't look dated, it has your class and style and is beautiful.
That is a stunning cake. People may not want to eat them, and I know they don't want to pay for them, but WOW! That is AMAZING!
Beautiful work, Shirley!!! And, Gefion, you're being way too modest ~~ you have your own great Lambeth tutorial. Here's the link, everyone:

I have a question. Can you ice the cake in BC then pipe the accents in RI?
I just finished a course in this method and my hat's off to you Shirley! It is a test in patiences for sure!
