I'm making a modeled figure of James Bond for the new movie premiere in his famous pose. Well, he's standing and will be the topper for my James Bond cake that I'm doing for the premiere on November 17th. So, I need him to be standing and I can't figure out how I"m going to do that.

Any ideas? He'll have a hand of cards behind him.

Will he be big enough to stick a dowel through? Leave a few inches or so under the feet and insert that into the cake.

Hmmm...

I'm not sure. I guess I should start modeling him before I worry too much about how he'll stand up.

You can also use a skewer if you need a smaller support.

Model him first and then insert a bamboo skewer up through a leg and his body and insert the other end through the depth of the board. Alternatively rest him up against the cards - you could even have him him leaning an elbow nonchalantly on the cards?

I use a piece of dry spagetti in my taller models. It is still classed as edible then, and strong enough. hth

i would do a small dowel, bamboo scewer or a wire covered in press and seal (the end that goes in the cake) or you can put the wire in a coffee stirrer straw (protects the cake from the metal in the wire)

I would use a dowel as well, but I would also make a gumpaste base to attach him to. Roll out a fairly thick piece of gumpaste and then cut a circle large enough to balance him but smaller than the top of your cake. You can let the circle dry completely, as well as your figurine, then glue the bottom of his feet to the dried base with a small piece of fresh gumpaste and some gum glue. Prop him up until it is completely dry and feels secure. When you do the cake you can do a few narrow dowels or sucker sticks in the center of the cake and have them extend above the surface by about 1/8" to support the figure so he doesn't sink into the cake. That is how I did the base of this Halloween topper, I didn't need to dowel the witches because their bodies and clothing were glued to the cauldron with gum glue.
