I'm looking for ideas. I searched the galleries, but nothing on habitat or humanity.

Here's the story: In November 2005, Evansville was hit with a tornado that killed over 20 people and left many more homeless. Habitat has started a subdivision called "New Haven" for the families who lost their homes. The streets are even named "Inspiration" "Belief" "Hope", etc. Our church is sponsoring and building one of these homes for 2 weeks in September. Our church is also planning a house warming type shower for the family. I'd love to make a cake, but clueless on ideas. I'm not a sculptor, but I've done things with fondant/gumpaste, and work with Buttercream. Any ideas would be great!! Thanks!

I did one recently where I had a general drawing of what the house was going to look like and I made the cake to match. Not hard at all as long as it is not too intricate of a house design!

Do you have a picture of it? I'm thinking about buying the 3D house pan and setting it on a sheet cake, but I dunno. I have a while to think about it I guess.

honestly. i hate that 3-d house pan. it is too tall and narrow and can be really hard to get it to stand up

i stacked 3 square cakes together. Then cut down at an angle to form the room. I used a flat slit tip like you use for basketweaving and started at the bottom and went all the way around to form the shingles and then stuck a fondant roof on top that I scratched shingles in with a sharp point. Then just add bushes and windows and voila! WAY easier than it looks and WAY easier than that 3-d pan (which I have still used on multiple occasions but not sure why!)

Thanks! I was kind of worried about the narrowness of the house pan. I haven't gotten a good look at it, but from pictures i've seen on here, it did look narrow.
