Chocolate Cake with Purple Flowers?

Just a quick question - do you think a chocolate cake with Chocolate frosting would look funny with Purple flowers, possibly roses? Do you think it would be too dark?

I have a cake order for this week, and all they have said is they want a chocolate cake, and she like purple.

I don't think it would look bad. Maybe you could add some other colors along with the purple...maybe even make it a lighter shade of purple. icon_smile.gif

purple and brown look really cute together. maybe not to dark of a purple though. More lavander pastel-ish.

I did this 8 inch using chocolate icing with purple flowers and it turns out real pretty, when the lady said purple flowers I thought yuk, but it looked nice when it was finished these look more blue than purple, but I took the picture before they crusted. The next morning they were a nice shade of purple. Good luck

I think it would look very pretty.. another one that looks gorgeous is the chocolate and pink mixture.. I think that is just beautiful together icon_smile.gif

I have a box of flowers for MD in my gallery, chocolate with light purple roses on it...it looks a little dark because I didn't think to take the photo before I put it into the box, but I think the purple looks okay with the chocolate. Janice

I did a chocolate cake with chocolate coverd strawberries for Saturday which I love and think is a classic but for some reason I added a few little dots of white icing around the strawberries and wow what a punch but in a small way. My digital camera was not working so I had to take them with my regular camera. Will post when I get them developed.

I think purple and chocolate will be beautiful.

bjfranco: you're absolutely right. white really does help punch things up. whenever i do chocolate covered strawberries i always pipe over the dark chocolate with white chocolate (i use chocolate coating).

bubbles: purple would look dandy with chocolate, and the darker the chocolate the better (if you're up to using ganache, that's your best bet). think candied violets when acheiving your colour (more bluish-purple rather than barney-dinosaur purple), and if you're piping roses, you might want to try streaking your bag (on the side that meets up with the small end of your rose tip) with white, so that the petals of your roses will be tipped in white.

Here is one I did for some friends who transfered to another state and since my hubby worked with hers, he got to see him at some training thing so I sent a cake with him to take home for my friend. Anyhow, it isn't purple flowers but it will give you an idea of what purple and chocolate look llike together. I used a chocolate fudge icing and violet for the candy melts.

aunt-judy - I think I will try the ganach. That sounds like it will be really pretty. I have never stripped a bag before, but I don't think it will be that hard. righ?

Lavender does look really pretty with dark chocolate. That's what my 16th birthday cake looked like...must have been pretty if I remember it after all these years icon_wink.gif

my dear bubbles, striping is a breeze. fit your bag with the tip or coupler and tip, and then fold down the cuff as you normally would. before scooping in your purplish icing, first take a palette knife and pick up some white icing. check where your small end (the pointed end) of your rose/petal tip is (if not using a coupler) and simply spread the white icing in a fairly narrow line inside the bag, making sure to reach the bottom (tip). keep the bag open, and fill with your coloured icing.
