If you're looking for simple, good tasting bc - here's one I use for just good chocolate flavor:
1 C Butter (softened - if you use marg. - expect softer icing)
1/2 C milk (room temp - higher fat = better icing, but 2% works ok)
2 t vanilla (or other)
2 LB Conf. Sugar (may take a little more/less depend on desired stiffness)
1/4 C Cocoa Powder (the darker the better for me because I'm a chocoholic)
2 T cold coffee (doesn't really add coffee flavor - just a little nuttiness)
Mix all well at slow speed in mixer until peaks form (don't be in a hurry)
Makes enough to do a 1/4 sheet with leftovers.

start with a triple chocolate fudge mix I think it is called. Any grocery store should have it. If not, get the chocolate fudge one. Add 1 cup milk, one handful chocolate chips, 3 eggs, a little vanilla and 1/2 cup oil. Yummy, chocolatey and firm enough to hold up well.

How about 1/2 per mix of sour cream. Ummm it brings out the chocolate flavor so much! And yes the triple chocolate fudge mix is great start.
