Does anyone have instructions for making a 3-D deer cake? This is one with the deer lying on a bed of greenery. The neck, head & rack are non-edible. I saw one at a wedding I catered last weekend, & would like to do one. Also, where to get the head part? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, but that's not what I'm looking for. This cake is the entire body of the deer, lying in the brush.

you can look in my photos to see if you want it like that. I baked 4 8" cakes. I cut it into thirds, using the round edges for the hump for the legs. The head was real cake, but next time I would probably use rice krispies. the cake was very heavy and did not want to sit so close to the end of the cake. I also put a cake board under the head and dowels, but my cake was so moist, it just kept falling over. that is why she is looking behind her!

Not sure if you can find it or not but Duff did it on ace of cakes season 1 i think.

Anyway he carved the body and then made a stand for the head and then carved it. covered it all in fondant and last put on the legs made out of fondant as well. It is the same concept as when he does dogs.

Sorry not much help!

When my nephew got married he wanted a full body deer cake lying in the "grass" and "weeds"! He carved a deer head out out styrofoam and spray painted it. His aunt (not me) make the full body by carving and stacking numerous layers together. He also took a large sheet of plywood (around 4' x 3') and glued all types of different silk "greenery" to make the grass and weeds. To attach the head to the body they simply placed a piece of saran wrap on the end of the cake so the painted styrofoam would not touch the cake and then just covered the "neck" in buttercream where it attached the cake. Overall it really turned out excellent. Sorry I don't have a picture for you.

I don't recall seeing one like you have mentioned but how about using the lamb mold cake? I have pictures from somewhere where someone made a calico cat and a cow. If you have the mold, take a good look at it & maybe you can make the head and nose bigger. If you want to see those pictures of the cat & cow, email me & I will email the pictures. Also there is a very nice deer's head somewhere in this site. I can email that too you too because it's in my favorites.
