Pastor appreciation cake

Hi ladies! I have been asked to make a sheet cake for pastor appreciation day for this Saturday. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much for your help. Gail

I did one for yesterday, haven't uploaded pics yet, but did ivory sheet cake with burgandy borders, gumpaste leaves dusted with gold, eveyone loved it, also dod a sheet, ivory with ivory borders, fall flowers (mums sunflowers, etc). I think the sheet cake with the cross on top would be really cool too! There is at least one on the galleries here. Have fun!

I envision praying hands in front of a brightly colored stained glass window.

Hope this helps. icon_biggrin.gif

Someone else asked this a couple of days ago, so I'll reuse my reply icon_biggrin.gif

I would use the book pan. On one "page", do a cross or praying hands and on the other "page" maybe you could quote Phillipians 1:3 "I thank my God whenever I remember you."

I ABSOLUTLY LOVE Fancymcnancy's suggestion! I wouldn't mind using that myself if you don't mind Nancy.
The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. Psalms 118:14

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I really liked the idea of the book with the praying hands. Would you suggest using a FBCT for the hands? I also appreciate the picture of the praying hands before the stained glass window. How could that be achieved? Remember I am a newbie!

I pulled the praying hands and stained glass window right out of Microsoft Word. You can do a FBCT if you would like or you can use the normal transfer method that they should in the Wilton Class 1 and fill it in using the star method. I'm sure it will be beautiful.

Have a blessed day!

I just did one for our pastor and I used the book pan, made it look like a bible with the sides combed to look like pages after I had brushed gold luster dust on the sides, and a burgundy braided book mark with on the left side "Thank you for giving to the Lord" and on the other side his favorite scripture verse with a cross draped in burgundy fabric. It was a hit with our pastor.

I have one in my photos...the very first cake in my pictures. It isn't the praying hands or open book, but they really liked the idea. See my description for an explanation. It might be something you can use? Can't wait to see what you come up with!!

Once again, thanks to all for your helpful suggestions. I have never used piping gel and I was wondering if it changes the taste of the buttercream?

I am really glad that I saw this thread. Next time I do something for church I will have to use this.
