Do they need to be individual cupcakes, or can it be a cupcake cake?

Maybe mini tiaras? Put wax paper on top of a rounded item like a flower former turned upside down or something else and pipe design using royal icing or candy melts. Let dry then place on cupcakes.

Maybe add a crown to make them more princess like.

There are princess cupcake liners. I have used them to make cupcakes; I found that the picture on the liner only shows up well with white cake mix. The picture was nearly impossible to see with the chocolate.
I like sweetbaker's idea of a mini tiera!!!

I don't know if you want to go to this extra expense but you could top them each with a sugar cone iced to look like those hats(?) princesses wear.

I've had this same problem. If you use 2 liners instead of one, you can see the pictures.

lisa, well now, isn't THAT just a simple, clever, fix-it idea!?! icon_lol.gif Man, that's why I LOVE THIS PLACE! Sometimes we are so close to the problem, we just can't see the simple solution! Thanks for the tip! icon_biggrin.gif

You're welcome! It was by accident that I realized this. 2 liners had stuck together and the pictures showed so much better. One of those happy accidents!
