I just found this forum a couple days ago and have been reading, reading, reading and drooling over all those awesome creations! I decorated cakes about 25+ years ago when kids started coming then got away from it when they outgrew wanting mom to make their cake. Nothing professional at all.
This spring I gave my dil cake lessons at Michaels for her birthday gift because she seemed to like doing that and has 3 little boys. I took the class with her and my how things have changed. We had a blast. Took course 2 as well and are looking forward to course 3 this fall.
I've posted my first attempts in my album. At first I wasn't going to but hey you have to start somewhere and hopefully we'll see improvement as time goes on. I finished the poinsettia cake this morning as practice and this afternoon have piped about 60+ miniature calla lilies. I always wanted to make my daughters wedding cake but realize now I couldn't do that at this point so I'm making the decorations to go on the sheet cakes. Wedding is in October so that'll give me a good bit of time to get them looking decent.
I'm sure I'll have tons of questions as time goes on. My goal is to take my onestroke painting techniques and continue to apply those to make cakes hopefully featuring landscapes and animals - my favorites to paint.
