I've been using Satin ice for awhile now but I've tried almost EVERY type of fondant (satin ice, chocopan, fondx, wilton) and I MUST say...FONDX is really THAT GOOD.

My cake has NO sags, cracks or rips whatsoever and I rolled it out pretty thin. I'm so impressed.
It's just too bad that you can get it from only 1 website....

Anyone else using fondx and agree that it delivers?
I think I might have to switch from satin ice to fondx....I refrigerated it also and it's just fine.

You can get Fondx at CalJave, but you can also get it at Cakedeco.com, and it is actually cheaper. It's great isn't it? I have used it for about a year now and I think it is awesome.

I currently use only SatinIce fondant and am pretty satisfied on it, however, I would be willing to give fondx a try. Does it taste as good as SatinIce? and what is the price difference between the 2? I can get SatinIce in a 5lb. tub for around $20.00, and a 20lb. tub for around $50.00.

I looked on cakedeco.com, and it is $24.75 for 10 lbs. I think I may try it.

How does it taste?

I have been using Fondx for the past 2 years and I do love it. So easy to work with and it smells and tastes good. Well, if you like fondant to begin with. I am still one of those who doesn't care for the chewy texture of fondant on a cake. But of all the brands I have tried, this is by far my favorite.

I don't care for the chewyness of fondant either, but I love working with it. I love the smell and taste of Fondx. I think the smell is out of this world! It makes you want to love eating it. It is much better since they improved it about 8 mths ago, so if you tried it before then, try it again, because it noticebly improved.

If you order from cake deco you have to get at least $50.00 worth of products. My understanding is that the shipping is not disclosed upfront because it depends on how much your order will end up weighing and the packing material they use. There is a link on their website about the shipping and tax policy. They seem to care about shipping it to you at the lowest cost possible.

I'm dying to try Fondx. So far I've tried MMF (too sweet for me), Pettinice (it's OK tasting, not great), Satin Ice (really good, it's not carried in my area so I can only order online and you can also refrigerate it, just cover loosely with saran wrap). I haven't tried Chocopan but after I saw one of the challenges and how awful it was to work with (if it's warm, it's really hard to roll) I don't think I'll give that a try although I have heard it does taste very well.

The taste........HONESTLY...to me, it has a different initial taste as opposed to Satin ice. Satin ice tastes just like marshmallows.
FondX tastes like a combo of marshmallows and gumpaste (you know how gumpaste sort of has a slight metallicy taste)

Overall though, it's pretty good. That's just my opinion.
And I personally think that fondant is just like pizza crust...some people eat it, some leave it. (I left my pizza crusts LOL)

I've been getting cracks everytime I use satin ice, even if I put crisco (so it's not too dry) or roll it out about 1/4". Maybe I'm just doing something wrong...

I have tried them all but Cocopan and I think I will sick with the FONDX cause it ROCKS!! It tastes great, colors great and smooths out like a charm. I LOVE IT!!

I have only worked with FondX and MMF. I really didn't like working with the MMF at all, the taste is alright but it's hard to smooth IMO. But Fondx seems fool proof at this point, it is sooo easy to work with and it tastes good and smells great. I've never had any wrinkles, cracks, etc with it and I'm a newbie at this so it isn't because of me. lol

I was planning to order Satin Ice this time because everyone here raves about it but I can't get it locally like I can Fondx. But hey, if Fondx is good enough for ShirleyW it's more than good enough for me!

I am a Fondx fan! Easy to work with (especially for a newbie), smells good and tastes good. Sooooo much easier for me than trying to make my own. I mainly ice and smooth my cakes with BC and use the Fondx for accents, ect....but I'm a believer!

HAS ANYONE TRIED FONDX ON COOKIES. I STILL HAVEN'T TRIED ROLLED BUTTERCREAM, BUT I WAS WONDERING ABOUT FONDX.

One more vote for FondX here...love the taste and the texture. I personally think it tastes much better than SatinIce, but it could just be me!

I was just in a cake store yesterday and was tempted to buy some bucketed fondant. So I asked if she had a sample of either one Satin /Fondx, she had some Fondx, I don't like fondant but that stuff was soooo good, it almost taste like a rolled bc but better. I wanted to but the big bucket but didn't have enough money. So I'm going to buy it hopefully next week. I'm just dying to try it over a cake and feel the texture.

I've been using it also for about 2 yrs now- and love it.
I've never tried anything else but used to make my own MMF.

My clients who swear they don't want fondant change their minds once they taste it, and I love how it is softer so easier to work with.

I do get more air bubbles then with my own MMF, and in this humidity it does get sticky, but those are my only complaints.

I've usually just bought it from CalJava but I'm going to look into buying it cheaper at the places mentioned!

Mjulian, what store in Kansas city area do you get it for that cheap? I live in the area as well!

Does anyone know if you can by FondeX in anything smaller than 10 lbs? I've been wanting to try it but if I don't like it that's a lot of fondant!

I love Fondx! I've made my own for years, used Massa Gruischuna and Satin Ice while working at an events and catering company, but once I tried Fondx 3-4 years ago, it became my favorite. It's great to work with, and the taste is wonderful!

I love Fondx, I was planning on buying some Satin Ice again, but I think I will stick with the Fondx. I do add flavors & chocolate to it if it is going to cover a cake. I use it to model figures & make all my floweres by adding Tylose to it, of course then I don't add the flavors or chocolate.

I've been kinda scared to buy my fondant, i've been making MMF and i'm not unhappy with it but it's a lot of work to make it myself. How long does FONDX usually last? I don't generally use much fondant and I'd hate to buy that much for it to go to waste.

I was just reading your replies and I think I might order some FONDX. I have used Satin Ice before, but I do not like the way it tastes. Ive also tried making some fondant like MMF and MFF and have not had any success there. Not sure what I do wrong when making it. Im blaming the humidity.

Hollynme2 asked about Fondariffic and I have to say, thats the best tasting fondant that Ive ever had. I went to the American Bakery Expo in Atlantic City last Sept and they had a booth and they had samples. I wanted every flavor that they had. It was just like eating candy. They gave me a sample of their buttercream flavored fondant and I made an 8 inch round cake and all I ate was the fondant. It tastes awesome, but its not worth paying double for the fondant. My local cake supplier sells a 5lb bucket for over $45 dollars. I dont use that much of it, so its not worth the expense.

I have been waiting for this topic for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time!!! And I am so happy to hear all the fans of Fondx. I just bought a bucket of it for the first time but haven't used it yet so now I'm dying to make a cake just to try it. I've never been a fan of Satin Ice - too hard to work with and taste isn't good - but Fondx was recommended by a local bakery and I will definitely use it soon! Have used Choco-Pan with very good results (but ordering it from Indy when I'm in TX is expensive and summer orders, forget it with the heat) and Fondarific is great but pricey. MMF is very good but if I can avoid making my own all the better. Hoping Fondx will be the answer to my fondant prayers!

Well, I've looked all over and come to the conclusion that you can only buy Fond-X in 10 lb pails. Has anyone seen them smaller? Might just have to bight the bullet and buy the 10 lbs! For those of you who've used Satin Ice, how does Fond-X compare? I find the SI tastes ok but am looking for something better yet. So what is the vote...Satin Ice vs Fond-X?

I am another FondX lover! I use it on cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. The only problem I have noticed is that if I want to paint on it, Americolor gel colors work better than the airbrush colors. That is really not a problem though, it you mix the gel with vodka. Hope this helps! Like I said before- I love it!
