when adding sour cream to a cake mix does it take the place of the milk? I've never used sour cream in a cake mix what do you do?

I use sour cream with every cake I make. I use the extended cake mix on this site. I get wonderful compliments on my cakes every time.

In the recipe section of CC.... there is a recipe for the cake mix extender. This will help you out. Of course this extends your mix... adding an extra cup or so of batter to the total mix.

Good Luck!!!

is that extender recipe good to use for a 3d cake... or a carved cake... it holds its shape well? not too soft?

I use it on every cake i make with a mix. I love it.... and have never had any problems, carving or a 3D cake. It has worked extremely well for me.

I thought about the cake extender on here after I posted of course icon_rolleyes.gif . I'm glad it works wll because I'm making the cake right now. I'm using the sports ball pan so I'm hoping this will work because I really don't want to have to make another one. Thanks for the info on the cake extender, if you all have great results I'm sure I'll be using it from now on with the sour cream.
