Hi Everyone,
I have a few questions about cookie bouquets. Hope someone can help...
What else, in addition to the styrofoam, should be put in the actual basket to stabalize the cookie sticks so they won't move when they are being transported or when the table moves, etc.?
Do you all put styrofoam?
I need to make the actual basket weigh because they will be centerpieces for an outside birthday party. What have you guys used for weights?
Do you all buy the dowel rods at Home Depot/Lowes? I feel that the popscicle sticks are a bit flimsy, especially since I will be making big cookies.
Thanks for any help you guys can give me.
Elvira

You sould use the cookie sticks that wilton sells and also skewers... I wouldn't use the dowels at home depot.. I don't think that they are approved for food usage.... If you put the styrofoam/floral foam in the bottom of the container it should hold up well.. There are some threads about other methods of stabilization here on cc somewhere.

Thanks...I'm glad you told me about the dowel rods at Home Depot. You're right. I didn't even think of that. The lollipop sticks seemed so flimsy last time I used them.
Can anyone else tell me their methods of "stabilizing" a cookie bouquet?
Thanks,
Elvira

I made a cookie bouquet today. Baked a choc cake in a terracotta pot and used the cake as the soil. Stuck the cookie sticks in and then iced the top of the cake with royal icing. When the icing hardened, it held on to the cookie sticks. If you are using styrofoam, maybe you could just ice over the styrofoam?
For weighing down the basket, you could put some clean pebbles in the basket and then the foam on top?

I use a lot of bamboo pots for my cookie bouquets and they are very light weight. I mix plaster of paris and use that in the bottom of the pots for weight. I dont use styrofoam....i use quick arrange so that there is no cutting to fit. You just mix the liquids together and it bubbles up and makes the perfect size of foam.

Happy Baking!
