End to a loooong saga...
7 tier cake (though bottom two are dummies). First attempt at royal icing and stringwork. I think it turned out great despite the long drive (ended up being 3 1/2 hours), long set up (again, 3 1/2 hours), being out of town with 5 young kids, being a bridesmaid in the Wedding and being undersupported by certain family members. I'm proud of how it turned out despite all that.
The Bride and Groom seemed thrilled with it! And my biggest supporters (world's greatest husband, dad and step mom) , completely made me feel proud of myself.
Glad it's over, glad I did it ~ and especially glad that I was able to make my sisters Dream Cake!
Thanks for all the support last week when I was having trouble feeling left out aof wedding preparations and feeling completely underappreciated!
Just out of curiousity...in your area, what would you charge for this...
18", 16" dummies, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6" double layer cakes (different flavors) all with fillings. Fondant covered, royal icing decorations. Just for curiousity sake...I'm not planning one like this for awhile.
Thanks everyone!!
LL

Your cake is absolutely gorgeous. I hope the bride and groom appreciate the hard work that went into that cake. You are to be commended.
I don't know how much to charge but, I would charge no less than 5-7 dollars per serving for a cake like that. JMO

Here in Massachusetts the average cost of a buttercream cake is $3 per serving and fondant is between $4-$5 per serving. I'm in a suburb, and Boston runs a few dollars higher.

I'm not sure what the charge is for the two dummy cakes, but there is indeed a charge because your skill and time in decorating them was equal to that of the edible cake.

This IS a dream cake. Congratulations on such an outstanding achievement!

That cake is so beautiful. I would not know what to charge for it, but it looks like you spent so much time on it. Your sister is very lucky. Try not to dwell on any of the unsupportive people. It appears that the main thing is that she loved it and you have talent!!!! If you can make that cake, you should have the confidence to get right out there and make some money!
And, in the meantime, you will always have special memories of making your sister's dream cake! Great job! It is totally gorgeous!

Absolutely stunning to behold! I bet your sister was just gushing at how wonderful and special she must've felt for you to contribute this lovely beauty to her day.
Here it is 2.50 a slice for b/c 3.50 for fondant.
The dummies are priced the same as if they were to be cut like cake.
Same time for decorating and stacking it, just because you can't eat that part doesn't mean it's cheaper.

If anyone had a problem with your needing time to complete this rather than "wedding party" type stuff I'm sure they ate their words when they saw that masterpiece. thumbs_up.gif

...so, according to Earlene's chart, thats 163 people it should feed....if you were to charge 7 bucks a serving....thats 1141!!!!

I would definately say that was about a thousand dollar cake!!!

I remember reading your post about feeling left out about the wedding and the hard time your family was giving you. I hope you served your family some "humble pie" along with the wedding cake.
