Oh, boy, can I relate! Mine always break using the leaf tip like number 70. I ALWAYS use the tip like number 352 now, it's the only one I can get to point. If you don't know your tip numbers check here.

Good luck to you, I feel your pain.

I have a terrible time without piping gel. I don't know if this is the correct remedy, but this is what I have found works for me to get a pointed leaf instead of a square at the end one. HTH!

Oh, another thing I learned in my wilton class is to make sure that the end of your tip is open enough, stick your small spat in there and open it a tiny bit.

You might want to add a few drop of water and mix to a medium consistency. I've had that problem when the consistency was too stiff. Make sure the end of your tip is open enough. The leaf tips are easily bent together. If the opening is too small at the end put a small spatula in the tip and turn it to open it up a little......hope that helps

Do try opening your tip, if you open your tip too much, you can always pinch it back closed. Also, if you have any corn syrup on hand, that does the same thing as piping gel. Lastly, I always use thin consistancy for leaves. Good luck! HTH

well I got the cake done (yeah!!!!)I opened up my tip added some corn syrup and water to thin it a little and all of that helped alot, I still couldn't get the leaves to have nice pointy tips but they didn't break nearly as bad ohhh well thats what this cake was for PRACTICE and thats what Ill keep doing. I was soooo proud and wanted to show y'all some picts but I can't get my camera to download icon_mad.gif, Ill keep trying and show you when I can. Thank You for all of your suggestions. I LOVE this site and have noticed a CONSIDERABLE improvment in my cakes since I found it! Thanks Again!!!

It came out so cute. I have to agree with Karateka though Invest in a 352 tip and you will love making leaves. I hate the other tips. The 352 is all I want to use. It seems to make a nice leaf no matter what. Make me happy. icon_wink.gif

Check the end of your tip it might be closed and add a little piping gel it keeps them from splitting & breaking.

I use parchment bags and cut the tip into a point...like a V. It works well for me. I have never had problems with leaves done in this manner.

The turtle is soooo cute!
