Do You Ever Dream Of Disaster?

I have a bridal shower cake due this afternoon for a co-worker. I will be attending the shower too.

I made a 2 tier strawberry cake with a cream cheese filling and fresh cut up strawberries in between the cakes. Iced it in bc, and dammed in between the cakes with thick bc too, just like we were taught in class.

All night long I have dreamed of the bride to be cutting into the cake only to have it a soggy and unedible mess. I actually got up in the middle of the night to check on the cake twice.

I don't know if this is some sort of 'cake 6th sense' telling me to have a back up (probably wal-mart bought cake) or if this is just stemming from a bad experience before with my strawberry cakes.

I did this exact cake about 3 months ago for a family member. By the time I delivered it, the whole top cake had cracked into about 8 pieces and the strawberries and filling were oozing out thru the top. I first thought when I flipped the top cake over, it had started to crack, and the weight of the icing added to it, and it just broke into pieces.

Then, about 2 weeks ago, I did a small wedding cake for a co-worker's daughter. She told me the cake was beautiful, the bc was 'superb', but the actual cake (vanilla bean white) was dry and almost unedible. I've never had anyone tell me my cakes were dry. They have always raved about how good and moist they are. Other things happened with this co-worker, and I won't get into that, but all in all, I think she wanted her money back, which she didn't get.

But, that co-worker will be there tonight, so I am anxious that this cake does ok and doesn't cause problems.

Does anyone else ever dream of something going wrong, or waking up in the middle of the night to go check on your cakes? What does this mean?
Should I have another backup cake just in case? And most importantly, if my cake turns out ok, should I take the backup walmart cake and shove my hateful co-worker's face in it? Ok, just joking about the last one.....maybe. icon_twisted.gif I wouldn't do that, but I sure have thought it. hahahahahahahahahahha

I have had countless dreams about being in the middle of a 4 wedding cake day, and can't get back to the bakery after being out in a car. It's like "I'm late, I'm later, for a very important date"
In my dreams, I am so upset and anxious about being late...that prodded me in real life to leave extra early enough for deliveries.

I think your dream is just an extension of your stressed attitude about this cake and your past experience is fueling it. As far as the co-worker, don't worry. There is nothing you can do about her problem as it is. Just give a good cake that you are known for and you will receive praises.

this happens to me all the time when I have a lot of cakes going out in one day or if I have a really big wedding cake due. I even have dreams about cakes that I will be doing in the future, if it is something new that I have never done before I just get really stressed and have dreams about different ways that I could do it or just get different ideas so I now have a notebook next to my bed for when I wake up in the middle of the night haha. i know, it seems so pathetic icon_smile.gif

I always dream about my cakes falling to some sort of disaster. I don't actually check on them during the night, but I do when I get up in the morning. I guess I usually worry more if the person will like the cake or not.

OMG I thought I was the only one that had nightmares about cakes, it's rewarding to know that I am NORMAL, (my kids will disagree to that statement). I have 4 cakes due this week and I am already wondering "WHAT IF". Your cake will be just fine, please besure to post the picture. As far as the thought I have had that same thought more than once. Ha/HA.

Just wanted to let everyone know that my cake was 'wonderful, delicious, and just plain awesome' according to the guests who attended the bridal shower last night. I was very happy, and even had the co-worker tell me the cake was very good. Coming from her, I know everything is ok.

It wasn't soggy or mushy, so I guess my dream was just worry from past experiences.

Thanks everyone on CC for hearing me out.

I made a bowling cake, had so many aggravating problems with it, then dreamt that an actual bowling ball smashed the cake! I woke up in a cold sweat!!
