Can someone please give me a tip on how long I am suppose to bake a cake in this pan? I made the Bratz doll cake last night using this pan however, it wasn't easy. She was attempt number 4!!!! icon_cry.gif

Cake one was a total disaster never cooked so I threw it away. Cakes 2 and 3 well lets just say when my 8 yr old son looked at them his response was "Wow mom I didn't know you could get Jell-O in a cake like that"...gross. Threw those away. icon_mad.gif Cake 4 (bratz cake) I cooked even longer at a lower tempt however this one was a bit burnt around the edges. tapedshut.gif I had my daughter taste a bit from the inside and she said it tasted a bit funny.

I had made a Barbie cake for another one of my husbands co-workers back in April or May using this mold so I called her to see how her cake was. Well, she thought it was so pretty it is still sitting in her fridge uncut.
Didn't know if I should laugh or cry after that one.

I called my husbands friend and explained the problem he said he didn't care he wanted it more 'for show'. Well he got the 'for show' cake however I only charged him the $10 I spent on the actual doll because I was afraid the cake would taste gross. My husband is saying I should have charged at least for all the cake batter, time, electricity, sweat and tears. Ahh I am so confused do you guys think I made the right choice?

I trust you guys fully please give me advice.... icon_cry.gif I need it!!

Thanks in advance.
Carmen

Hmm, I don't have the wondermold pan, but I'm wondering if it has a heating core? If I recall, that's a pretty deep pan. I would definitely use one if you already haven't and probably bake at a lower temperature for longer. Here's a bump for someone who has used this pan...

Did you use the heating rod that goes in the middle? I've made cake in this pan before, baking it at 325 for around 45 minutes, checked it, then let it bake for about 5 or 10 minutes more, keeping a close eye on it. I also only used 1 mix, but it didn't fill out the entire pan. I think you have to adjust the time if you use more batter. I would also check the temp on your oven, sometimes they are off. Also did you use a scratch or box mix? I think sometimes it makes a difference.

Sorry you had so much trouble with it. I hope your next one goes better.

I've made quite a few doll cakes using the wondermold pan. You should fill it no more than 2/3 full, bake at 325 and it takes at least 45 mins. or longer. I use mixes with the cake extender recipe. Make sure to watch it carefully.

I have used a few times. Never had a problem, took longer to bake and I used the rod that comes with pan.

This may not be the best way...but this is what I do in the Wonder Mold Pan.

I try to use 1 1/2 mixes in order to get my doll skirt as big as possible. With using so much batter, it tends to bubble up and ALMOST go over. (Usually doesn't, though but don't hold me to that) I bake for about an hour. The top usually looks pretty crusty but it's OK b/c I cut off the giant bump rising above the pan. Make sure to use the heating core and it should be fine.

That way it tastes good and is a big dress.
Hope this helps, good luck

You have to use the heating core that comes with it, it took a bit longer than the time specified on the box, and I did it with a double mix, I believe (maybe a little less - the pan was about 2/3 full).

Thank you all so much for your replies and suggestions. I did use the heating core, I baked the last one at 325 for about (what I feel like was) an hour and a half... or more...yikes...but that is the only way I felt it was going to cook thoroughly. But, then I felt like it had a burnt smell and taste to it..not to much but enough for me to notice. I also did it about 2/3 full. I also thought it was maybe the oven so today I baked a 6 in and a 12 in...both were fine!!!

I am going to try the mold pan again and see. I am not sure what was going on with it.

Thanks again. I knew I could count on my CC family for support.

I am so happy to report that I just got a call in from my husband's coworker and he said the cake was a hit! He said it was so moist and delicious!!!! Yeah!! I have been so nervous all day thinking about this poor little girl and her burnt cake and it turns out to be totally the opposite!! I am so happy. O and get this he tells me he gave my husband $60. I told him no because I had already told him $10 but he said no he wasn't taking it back that was my tip!!!!! He said I made his little girls day! I told him he just made mine!!! Wow what a relief.

Well, I am glad to see that I am not the only one with that problem. When I baked in the wonder mold it took about an hour and a half. I was shocked that it took that long.
