I had not really thought of those. I think the problem with the shades is you normally have these on the side of your car, and also, since the shade is on the inside, if you have even slightly tinted windows, it will be harder to see.

The point of these werent really just to be another car accessory, but an actual warning to the drivers behind you. I don't know about you, but when I have cakes in the car, I drive really slow, and take corners even slower.
This tends to make people really angry, as if the entire reason I was driving slow was to piss them off.

This acts as a friendly reminder to those behind you, that you are not going to speed up or do some crazy maneuver to quickly get out of thier way if they start blaring thier horn and drive 3 inches behind you. This will let them know you are driving that cautiously for a reason, and to please politely pass if they are in a hurry.

Sooooooooo true Jackie!! When I have cakes in my car, I creep around corners/curves and I know I have angry people behind me.. I've had them just zoom around me just furious because I was going slow .. I know they have no idea that I have cakes in my trunk I'd love to have something they so they'd know that I had cakes in the trunk of my car and to BACK OFF!! lol

I would be much in favor of static clings, I will NEVER put another magnet on the outside of my car.

I have to disagree here. I have alot of experience with using magnet signs on shuttle vans and SUVs and have never had a problem with damage to the vehicle. The important thing to remember is that magnetic signs are not meant to be left on the vehicle indefinitely. They are meant to be left on the vehicle for the duration of the trip, or for the day, but they should be removed when the purpose of their announcement is completed.

Of course this might vary with different climates, but I have used them in 100+ heat. It might also vary with the quality of the manufacturer.

I do think that magnetic signs look more professional and are longer lasting.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a different experience with magnetic signs.

I have to laugh because I was dropping off a cake about 2 weeks ago and I was on the cell with a friend (I had my headpiece on) getting update directions for the delivery. I said to her at one point "I need a bumper sticker or sign that says 'get off my a** I have a cake on board'". Glad someone else thinks the same thing.
I like the magnet better because clings that I use in my house for holiday decorating don't always hold up very well.

I had originally suggested window cling but love the magnet idea even better, right now I use a printed off piece of paper in a clear paper cover that says "Cake On Board". Would love a magnet that would be more noticeable. I think the generic "Cake On Board" would work, some of my non wedding cakes are pretty elaborate. I think If people figure we went to the trouble to put a sign on the outside of the car, we must be hauling something special. Heather.

I think you give "people" too much credit. icon_biggrin.gif
Unless you have ever transported a "non" grocery store cake,
just ----- "Cake on Board" ------ really holds no meaning to "people", specifically the people driving behind you.

But.... those words in conjunction with "CAUTION! - Wedding Cake on Board", you get an entirely different reaction.
People will calmly pass you, or stay more than 3 inches away from you, and you really don't get any honks.

it Serves as a warning and explanation to your slow and overly-cautious driving.

(I have done research on this, so this is much more than my "personal opinion") icon_smile.gif

What about those window decals that are all the rage? It can read something like : "WARNING, the cake inside this vehicle belongs to Bridezilla. Don't rush me!"

It would add a bit of humor and the can be made relatively cheep, and placed in the lower corner of the rear window.

That's a good one Debbi....but you better remove it when you get to the place of delivery so no one that knows the bride sees it..or the bride herself...lol... but i like it......
I just do cakes locally... I don't want to deal with any more stress than I have to....But Caution.....wedding cake on board ..... or wedding cake delivery.... seems pretty good for the average person to read...
Happy driving the wedding cakes..

I would prefer window clings. I wouldn't mind the " SLOW DRIVER...WEDDING CAKE ON BOARD" thing...as Jackie said ...if it says Birthday cake people will think ...."SO WHAT"? We all buy birthday cakes at the grocery store. Even for those who don't do wedding cakes, people I think would be more respectful of the fact that you are hauling around a wedding cake. JMO

Ok... I've voiced my opinion about preferring magnets, but if you all decide on window clings, so be it. I just can't see paying over $20.00 for a window sticker!
