I use to wash all by hand but now I'ved wised up a bit! I pre-wash all my tips and couplers with the cleaning brush, just to get off the big stuff. Place them in a mesh bag in my dishwasher or in one of my compartments for utensils (I have a section that closes)....and Voila...clean tips and couplers!!! I have also put the decorating bags in the dishwasher...hung upside down by little plastic clothespins and you end up with perfectly clean stuff. Lately, I've been just hand washing the bags because I am in a hurry but either way works for me! Hope this helps. Happy baking, Missey

I'm with Missey! I clean most of the icing from the tips then put them in the dishwasher. Bags ~ i've dishwashed them but usually wash by hand so I can re-use right away.

A baby bottle nipple and bottle brush work wonders. I never put my bags in the dishwasher, as I said before things around here have minds of their own. I am afraid one day my dishwasher (out of spite) icon_mad.gif will run on the hottest water temp. it can find and ruin my bags.. icon_surprised.gif UGH! But as for my tips and couplers I to have a section that closes.
And my brushes in the dishwasher top rack! icon_biggrin.gif

thanks for the info. i however, don't have a compartment in my dishwasher because i live in italy and their dishwasher stinks. thumbsdown.gif it's too small and once it starts you can't stop it or the buttons will stick on you, making it a pain to restart.

i am still in the dark ages and don't have a dishwasher to use but have worked around it. i use to work in a bakery and i just put all of the tips and couplers in a plastic bowl and turned the hot water on and let it run into the bowl while i cleaned the counters, but things away etc. i also let my bags sit in hot soapy water at the same time and never really had any trouble with them not coming clean. hope this helps someone out there!

I don't have a dishwasher by choice. I use my brush to knock out the bulk of the icing. I then place my tips and couplers in a saucepan with a drop or two of Dawn dish-washing liquid. I boil for 5 minutes. I drain and rinse in my colander than boil in vinegar water for another 5 minutes. Drain, rinse, drip dry, put away.

As for bags, I wash by hand.

Cali, is there a reason that you boil? I've never heard of anyone else so thorough. I just squirt out the icing, run the little brush thru, then stick them in the mesh bag and into the dishwasher.

I too pre-wash mine in hot soapy water and use the brush on the tips. I put them in the mesh bag on the top rack too. Then I lay the bags inside out so the greasy side is out. When done I take them out, hang the bags on my wooden spoons or spatulas I have out on the counter in a crock. One thing I have done for a while is when they are all day, like over night I put the cuplers back into the bags and when Im ready just put on your tip and your ready to go!! Sandy

I boil because I do not have a dishwasher. I can't wash them in tap water hot enough. Your dishwasher is much hotter than if you washed the dishes yourself. We have all had to open the door after it has started and it's very hot!!

Also, boiling gets them really clean. I never ever have any residue. I never have to worry about if my tips are OK for royal or my chocolate transfers. They are always ready to go for whatever use I need them. I've noticed even with the dishwasher they can have residue icon_confused.gif . Boiling gets rid of this. So, even if I now had a dishwasher, I would still boil mine, at least every other time. icon_lol.gif

That makes sense. I thought maybe there was a secret you knew that we didn't. Guess it would be the same as boiling baby bottles.
