I know everyone hates questions about pricing, but wondering if you all can help me out.
I've had a few people inquire about cake truffles, and I'm trying to decide on a price. I dip them in chocolate, then do a little design on top with candy melts. I had been thinking $6/dozen, $10/2 dozen, but now I'm thinking that's not much!! How about $8/dozen or $15/2 dozen? And add on a couple bucks if in a decorate tin, container, etc.???
What do you think?
thanks for any input.
I'm not really sure... I would think it would depend if you usually use cake scaps for them or if you baske a cake only to make cake balls. That would change your cost on making them which would effect the price.
I think the $8 with a decorative tin sounds good. They will feel like they are getting more with the presentation.
thanks for the input...as far as whether I'm using scraps or not - it depends! If I have scraps, I'll use them, but if not, I do bake a cake just for that reason.
I charge $1 per truffle. It is just as expensive to make especially when you add the chocolate cost. I use a good chocolate.
man i sell them 15$ for a dozen, which includes a stick and bow or $10.00 without the decorations.....
i also make varieties....pecans, butterscotch, walnuts, white chocolate, peanut butter, german chocolate.....some with alchol some without...
Hi,
I was just reading about these cake balls and they sound so interesting. can someone post pictures of them and directions on how todo them? I would love to try these for my xmas party.
Thanks in advance!

Cake balls/truffles are just your leftover cake scraps, mixed with a little liquid of your choice to make them moist enough to be formed into a ball. Then, people add other things like nuts, coconut, butterscotch chips, what have you. I like to dip them in chocolate.
Do a search in the forums and you'll see people's suggestions for recipes. There are photos in the galleries as well.

I also charge them $1.00 per and if I put any mini chocolate on them..I up them to $1.25
but, for people I know..I sell them about $10.00 per decorated pound.
I use the Wilton cookie scoop and it makes a cake truffle that after I've dipped it weighs about a little over an ounce....15 truffle balls make about a pound, in this case.
Usually I only sell them to the people at the spa, or if I do a 2-D cake , I make them from the cake scraps and sort of throw them in,or at least 1/2 dozen of them... after all they've sort of paid for that cake anyway...
For those of you who actually bake a cake to be used for a cake ball/truffle order, approximately how many do you get per a box of cake mix?
I sold my first 4 orders for $8 a dozen and then realized that with delivery this is not enough. I may have to increase the price to $9 or $10 for a bakers dozen.
I get approx. 4 dozen per cake mix.

Kate, is that with the extender or straight mix? thanks!
thanks for that info Kate.......now I have an idea of what I can expect to get if I have to make a cake for a truffle order...normally I just use scraps, but if orders start coming in, will have to improvise.
risque...that is with the straight mix. right now I am so short on time I only sub the water for milk and get the thing in the oven!! when I hae more time I try to do pudding, etc.
lately, all I do is bake cakes for truffles!!! Just today I think I got orders totaling 17 dozen?!?? all w/gift packaging....
Kate, congrats on all the orders. What do you charge? I am right now trying to figure what to charge folks who started asking. Decorative containers can be bought at the dollar store, so that cost I can figure, just not what for the truffles.
I charge $8/dozen for truffles, then add on a couple bucks for the gift packaging, like the tins or whatever from Walmart, Michaels, etc. If the truffles have liqueur, $12 a dozen. I give a little discount for more than that...$15 for 2 dozen, $20 for 2 dozen with liqueur, etc.
I wish more people would order cakes from me though!! I'm getting bored with all these truffles.
