Please Tell Me This Happens To Everyone.....

my mother's boss ordered a truck cake from me for a big higher ups meeting. (its a trucking co.) I dropped off the cake, about 6 people looked at it and said it was great before I left......and then later this afternoon I get an email that I had a spelling mistake of the companys name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to die!!!!!!! I feel like a total idoit!!!!!!
Please tell me everyone has done this once!!!!
Well that certainly is easy enough to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't do exactly that, but once I forgot to put the names on at all!
Curious that those people who saw it didn't notice!
YUP!! (Hand waving in the air!) I've done that. To make it worse, it was on my step-sister's daughter's (we aren't really close at all, our parents married when I was 33) FIRST birthday cake!! I spelled her name Macy, and it's spelled Maycee. Ugh, I felt horrible. Trust me, you'll never forget to confirm spelling again.
OK, sadly enough I have done this 3 times......ARRRGGGGHHH!!!
Now I get people to write their name down with the age they are GOING to be on their birthday (coz I have put the wrong age on cake too..)
You are not an idiot, (at least it wasn't on national television like that poor lady who put the head on backwards on the birthday cake competition and she was a pro.)
I mis-spelled my grand daughters name on her birthday cake. Lucky it was only for a family party and of course all the grand kids make sure I spell their names right when it's thier turn for a cake.
Peg818 bithday to funny!!!! Something I would do.
Yes, I have done this!! I did it once on a birthday cake, and I did it on a baby shower. The birthday cake was ...get this... Jenny. I spelled it Ginny. Yes, I know. The baby cake was Ryleigh. I spelled it Reilly. Oh well. It happens to everybody! Dont sweat it!
I've done this 2x. The first time, the cake was for a little boy's birthday, his name is Dominic and I spelled it Dominick. The second was worse though....I did a cake for a little girls birthday, wrote "Happy Birthday Brianna" and the cake was actually for Brittany, the little girls sis!
Bet that they ate it and loved it no matter how it was spelled. Don't beat yourself up over it. Could have been worse. I made a pumpkin pie when I worked in my mom's cafe and forgot to put the sugar in. You should have seen the look on that old man's face when he bit into it. My mom made a cherry pie and put salt instead of sugar. So there's lots worse things that could happen.
Count me in! Dropped off the cake no one said a word, then I find out days LATER I spelled it wrong! Felt like a complete idiot~!!!!!
My mistake wasn't on a cake but on invitations to my sons Eagle Scout ceremony. The name of the church was "First Congregational" and I put "First Congressional". I wanted to DIE, I was so mortified when I realized too late of course that I had written that on the invites. No one mentioned it to me except of course my husband after the fact.

Yup I've done that. Once I made a cake for some people who were moving to North carolina and I wrote South carolina
Not only that turns out they didn't leave for about another month. lol so it was early too.
Hasn't happened to me...yet
Way before I made cakes I went to costco for my son's 1st birthday, the section where it asks what you want it to say obviously I wrote " Happy 1st Birthday". The person decorating the cake thought is was a 7 even with the 'st there and so I had a cake that said "Happy 7st Birthday".
Hey, just the other day I saw a wonderful cake, made by one of our many professions, that spelled birthday Birthaday. Don't be too hard on yourself - typo happan all the tyme.
Yep...been there, done that! It is unbelievably easy to mispell when you are so carefully concentrating on making each letter perfect that you completely forget the word.
I try to check as I go but that is easier said then done... sometimes you just get on a roll and don't want to stop. Don't sweat it - if you feel like sales may have been lost then make a small cake or something. I don't know how to handle it with a big company. I'm sure the cake was so awesome they barely noticed the typo : )
That is too funny! I guess I shouldn't be too upset then that my husband on our wedding present that he gave me the night before had my name misspelled? LOL I was a little worried as we hadn't dated long (9 months) and no we didn't "have" to get married! LOL He had spent all this time on this elaborate envelope and was quite proud of his artistry of writing my name and decorating the envelope that he was MORTIFIED when I showed him Melissa was either missing an S or added an L. I think he added a letter! LOL
I think it does have to do with concentrating on the LETTER and not the word as a whole... It'll make me check. I'm decorating a cake tonight for "megan" not Meghan!

A good friend of mine ordered a cake from a bakery (this was about 10 years ago and no one was into cake decorating back then) anyway the cake was for her godson "Eric". She ordered the cake with Eric's older brother's name on it! So Eric's birthday cake said, "happy birthday Raymond!". Luckily Raymond and Eric's mother has a great sense of humor and Eric was too young to know or care, and we still laugh about it today.
well a couple years ago...an extremely finiky customer came in to make an order....
i thought..."i'll show her, i'll make it so pretty she cry"
i have my own kinda shorthand....so on the tickets..if its a birthday...HB BOB...or whatever
this one was an anniversary...
so H ANN....i of course on mrs picky's cake wrote happy birthday ann.....
i must say she absolutely loved the fact that i made a mistake....cause that meant the cake was sucky after all...no matter how pretty it was.
i put a banner of icing over all the letters and wrote happy anniversary....
i've misspelled names too...although i am getting pretty deft at sneaking the missing letter in after the fact...ha ha!
my sister just got one of those cookie cakes at a bakery the other day (I was caked out) and when she got home realized it said Happy Birhday.....so it happens...
Oh, goodness, I'm going to BURN IN HELL for all the laughing I just did over these posts.
I am so sorry, all of you, but some of these just cracked me up. It started with bithday and ...........well, you know. This is some funny stuff.
I am doing two cakes this weekend....that one Grateful Dead grooms cake and a bridal shower cake. You can bet your sweet bippy that I am going to quadruple check every single letter that I write on these cakes before I deliver them. On second thought, maybe I won't write ANYTHING ON THEM, so there's no chance of screwing them up. I am one of the fortunate ones who has never had a blunder on a cake - -
Thanks for the laughs y'all. This one made my night.......I hope none of you take my laughing personally. I'm laughing (or crying) with you, not at you !!!
I did a christening cake a few years ago that the grandmother ordered for her daughter's baby. She ordered it as "God Bless Jake". When her daugher came to pick up the cake, she started laughing and said it was beautiful but her baby's name was Kyle. I felt horrible but looked at the order and it was ordered as Jake. She just laughed and said, that was the name her mother wanted her to pick for the baby. She knew her mother didn't do it on purpose but must have been thinking of the name she had wanted. Thank goodness it wasn't done on purpose huh? I was able to lift the name off the cake and do it over.......I personally like the name Jake better......lol
When I worked at Kroger around graduation time, I don't know how many cakes I actually put "Congradulations" on. Then, a lady brought one back and told me it's "Congratulations". I felt like I needed to go back to HS!! But yes, it happens.

When I worked at the bakery, we would ask people did they want the cake to say "Congratulations" or "ConGRADulations"...just for fun on graduation cakes. 90% of the time they just looked at us with a blank expression, because they didn't realize it was supposed to be spelled with a "t"! You'd be surprised how many people just wouldn't notice, even if it was a mistake!
I wrote Happy Birtday!! So it does happen. I'm sure it will happen again before it's all over.
I havn't done enough to make that one but I am sure to hit it eventually lol... I did see at least one in someone's photos that had a letter missing in the happy birthday.... all the comments were positive and if anyone noticed..they weren't saying so I kept shut too lol... (an older cake in someone's album)... what's done and gone stays done and gone lol..
oh yeah..I did that on an engagement cake! I mis spelled
CONGRATULATIONS! lol no one noticed!
Count me in ~ I always thought Michele had two l's in it! That is until the birthday girl told me I had one to many in there!
Debbie
I too am notorious for writing HAPPY BITHDAY! instead of HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Luckily, I catch it so I can fix it.
However, I did spell a little girl's name wrong once and I think she cried. Brianna should have been Bryanna. I still have to make it up to her! I felt horrible.
I ALWAYS ask the client look at the cake "DID I SPELL EVERYTHING RIGHT?" Well, this one order I didn't spell name right & instead of telling me WHEN I ASKED, she took cake home tried to fix it HERSELF. NOT to mention it was wrote "ON" BROWN FROSTING, so once she saw she was messing it up then she decided to let me know name was WRONG & now could I fix that & where she messed it up a bit......A BIT, WHAT THE WORLD, I thought to myself.........and a few other things that can't be posted!?!?!??!? Anyway, it happens we are human!!!!
