Made modeling chocolate for first time. LOVE IT!

I made white modeling chocolate for the first time this week. I thought I had done something wrong when I added the cornsyrup because it started getting hard. I let it sit over night and started working with it the following day. Once it got pliable it was so easy to work with. I am so glad I tried it. I am so glad I found this site, I have found so many different things to work with. All of you are such an inspiration. My decorating skills have improved vastly over the last few months. I am making a deer head for my DH's b-day this weekend. I have seen people use fondant for the antlers, but since I like the mmf I knew it would take too long for them to dry. So I decided to use white chocolate. My husband really likes white chocolate so thought it would be fitting to try. I am pretty happy with how they turned out. I had planned on attaching a picture of them to this post but I am at work so I can't shrink the picture to fit so it is in my photos. I am not totally done with them, I plan on adding some chocolate highlites to them. I will post a picture of the cake as soon as I am done. I just had to share.

Modeling chocolate is lots of fun, I just made my first batch for my son's birthday cake and will be making more of it.

Hi neighbor! I have been tempted to try that candy clay. What type of chocolate did you use? Have you gone to Carolyn's in Spokane? They carry supplies and also teach classes. Good luck on your project. Just wanted to pass along. I've seen your other post and just wanted to say HI. Your cakes look great!

I just used Nestle's white chocolate chips. They worked really well. I have never been to Carolyn's where in Spokane are they? I don't get over that way very often just a few times a year but would like to know where they are at. All we have in Moses Lake is Wal-Mart, so I usually buy my stuff on line or if I go to Tri-Cities I will go to Micheal's. But even Micheal's doesn't have much of a selection.
I am almost finished with my DH's cake. I will post pictures as soon as I am finished. Thanks everyone for the compliments.

I am still wanting to take a class there even though I have taken all 3 wilton classes at michaels. I just want to learn other techniques they have all kinds of classes. The fall/winter will be kind of slim because of the holidays. And she emails the classes or you can get on a list. It is a cute little store with alot of stuff and she has a on-line store to. Thanks Christine for the info. I would love to go to some classes but would be too far for me to drive, but I do want to go to her store. I am sure I could probably find lots of stuff to buy.

Here is the modeling chocolate recipe I used:

14 oz of chocolate
1/3 cup corn syrup

I melted the chocolate in the microwave, I don't have a double boiler, and then added the corn syrup after the chocolate was melted. After you mix the corn syrup into the chocolate then you pour it out onto wax paper and let it sit out on the counter to dry. It needs to be left uncovered for a few hours. If not it will start to get wet. I had this happen to me. If that does happen just uncover it again and it will dry out. It should only take a few hours. After it was dry I just put it in a ziploc bag until I used it the next day. It will be very hard and you have to break it into small chunks to knead it. As you knead it it will get very pliable and will be very easy to work with. If you have any more questions just let me know and I will help you the best I can.
