I did a search on google to look for these and I agree w/Kiddiekakes. It's impossible to find some. I would suggest that you find a picture of her and then use that as a template. Depending on how many you have to do, here's an auction on eBay for Hello Kitty cutters (there's 10 hrs left at the time of this posting):

Thanks everyone. Yes, they are hard to come by. I will check out ebay (thanks Sweetpppp and Tayesmama) and if that doesn't work I will make my own template. I appreciate all of your responses.

Could you make an outline of HK, then buy a cheaper(ie one you could reshape a bit)cookie cutter and use that? I find using a template and cutting around the design is kinda a pain. Cutters are faster.

If I don't have any luck I will have to give that a try.

Thanks!

I searched the entire web for hello kitty cookie cutters and could not come up with much of anything. the ones on ebay usually are all overseas and you will pay ridiculous amounts for cookie cutters that are the tiniest things. usually about 2 inches big. I was looking for more of a substantial cookie cutter, like a 'big head' hello kitty cookie so I could give as favors. I think I finally came up with the perfect solution (I also imagined my self fashioning one out of scrap tin! yikes!) If you go on ebay and search for 'hello kitty bento lunchbox' you will come up with all different plasticy looking things but look for a white kitty shaped box, it usually has a red strap attached to it. these 'bento boxes' are apparently a bit of a craze where food is fashioned into all sorts of nifty things including miss kitty herself, usually out of sushi and rice etc then packed into these tiny lunchboxes (???) anyway... the box itself is the perfect shape for a cookie cutter and its dimensions are 5x4x2. which is the perfect size for icing and decorating. I attached a picture, hope this helps. I bought one for 8.99 plus shipping. its on its way so I dont know how it will work but im sure it will.

it's worth a shot if you're worried about getting hurt, wear gloves.......I've never worn gloves and I've never cut myself or been hurt otherwise by making my own cutters and I make ALL of my cutters....I'm too cheap and impatient to buy them lol

I made my own Hello Kitty cookie cutter. Like the original poster I could not find one ready made and really wanted a cookie to go with my daughter's Hello Kitty cake. I it is the first and only time making a cutter, and not difficult. Just follow KHalsteads tutorial.

Forgot to say that I used a picture from the party invitations as a guide when making the cutter.

Bento! My other love! I spend almost as much time on it as cakes, maybe more. (Should I be admitting it on a cake site?) Just a little factoid...Bento is a common thing where mothers/wives make a healthy, well prepared, visually appealing meal for their family members. The women get up early to do this and in some cases its a competition to send your kid out with the cutest meal. It got so out of hand that its similar to the uniform debate in the US--they banned home lunches because the richer families could show off their wealth through their bentos and it became a status war. To see uber cute food examples check www.cookingcute.com

I never thought to use my bento cutters/boxes in cake making. I use my cake supplies for bento though! The Wilton cutters are excellent for cutting bread/fruits/veggies, and cupcake liners are used to seperate foods in the boxes.
Ok, enough randomness. I just got so excited my interests crashed!

AND BTW, relevant to the topic at hand (not the bento) if you have an asian grocer/store next to you check them out for hello kitty. They have tons of cooking supplies/boxes etc with Hello Kitty. Also check to see if you have a Sanrio next to you--Hello Kitty smorgasbord...most places do, and it might be in the mall.

oh and sweetcakes did you mean people are hurting their hands when making the cutters or using the cutters?? You could bend the flashing over creating an edge (I don't because I don't like cookie dough getting stuck in there) so that it's not so rough on your hands to use them....if that's what you meant by getting hurt...and a little tidbit (probably cuz I'm strange) ....I put the cookie cutter onto my dough and then roll my rolling pin over top of the cutter instead of using the force of my hand to cut the cookie out.........I think I mostly do this because I usually freeze my dough in sheets and then bag em' up so I always have some on hand for cookie orders and I'm too impatient to let them defrost before cutting.....I pull them out of the freezer, cut and pop in the oven while they're still solid frozen/

I meant when making the cutters. I hadn't even thought about when using them yet.

Your method of having the cookies pre-cut and frozen for future orders is brilliant. I would have just had unshaped frozen dough on hand. Girl, you rock!

According to Yahoo answers Michael's carries them, and I do believe I've seen them there. Perhaps I shall take a stroll that way and see.
