I thought it would be fun to share our must have items from Ikea for cake decorating! I'm taking a little trip there this weekend, and am stocking up on spatulas and stuff.

What are your favorite things?

So far I love the dish towels, the dish gloves in the funky colors, and the Stainless-Steel Pastry Scraper is perfect for scraping MMF off your counter.

They have glass cake stand for only $8.99. I'm so getting that! icon_biggrin.gif

Oh wow, I didn't see the cake stand!

They just opened one here in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. I was in there last Thursday and got the big wooden Lazy Susan to use as an alternate turntable. It was only 6.99. I also got their version of a pastry brush. It doesn't have bristles so they say it's more sanitary...it's a flexible rubber-like material that has holes in it. The holes are supposed to trap some of the liquid in. Does that make sense? It came with a BBQ brush that I'm sure I can use for baking purposes.

I must go back to check out the kitchen stuff in more detail.

their wood lazy susan (i think it's probably about 14 or 15 inches in diameter) is my favourite turntable for decorating. it can take a lot of weight, and has enough room underneath for your "turning" hand (fingers), and also has practical uses as a serving surface for buffet-parties.

after losing everything i had (except for the cat, who my kind neighbours saved) in a fire 8 years ago i love ikea...my apartment is furnished almost entirely in ikea solid wood furniture and kid-and-cat-friendly sofas and chairs -- comfortable and pretty, but not so precious that i'm going to be heart-broken if anything happens to it. and their baby stuff is great too -- all my friends are having kids right now, and for like $50 i can put together a gift set of blankets, hooded towels, soft toys, washcloths, rattles, etc.

of course, one of the best things is the ikea bags themselves (which you can buy in canadian stores for $1 -- they're amazing. they hold everything, and since they're made of woven plastic, you can hose them down to clean them if you need to -- my friend's father uses them to carry freshly-caught big fish home).

ironbaker: that brush sounds like silicone...very sanitary for oils, but not great for "dusting".

Good to know aunt judy, thanks! I wanted something to use for a homemade mix to grease my pans.

And I'm glad to hear that you like the turntable, I have yet to use it. It is pretty sturdy...I would see them at other places for far more than 6.99.

Ha! I would gladly pay 13.99, if I was getting universal healthcare. icon_lol.gif

I am so excited they are building an Ikea around the corner from me in Canton,MI!!!! I can't wait to get cake decorating supplies there!!! I want that Lazy Susan! My favorite thing I got from there is a frame that looks like a collage and I have it filled with pictures of my DD and I have it at work. It has all sorts of different shape cut outs for the pictures. LOVE it, and the subject in it too! icon_lol.gif
