Its my mum & dads 50th Wedding anniversary in December and I'm doing the cake. I want to do roses as she carried in her wedding bouquet and they were deep red.
I've tried to colour paste red before and it took me an age and when it got to a deepish red the paste started to crumble and get a bit dry and I found this happens when you mix to much colour into paste. icon_eek.gif

I know I can buy red paste, but what I have seen isn't dark enough or the 'right' colour.

So any tips from you clever people as to the easiest way to achieve this.

cheers Jan x

I've used Americolor Super Red, and it gave me deep red, so you may try it.

If you are making your paste, displace some of the water in the recipe with the red food coloring, you will end up with a nice deep red. Then dry brush a deep red petal dust over the piece to add some depth and to deepen the color even further.

Use red powder colour, then when roses made, overdust with deep red petal dust.

Thanks! I did think about colouring the paste red first then dusting, but wasnt' quite sure which colouring to use to get a good red and not a pinky sort of colour!

thanks for your suggestions - I knew that some of you would have some ideas, I would be lost at times without all of you - and this forum!! icon_biggrin.gif
