I've seen many threads about dissatisfaction of the large cake leveler. I was wondering how many people actually like it????

I like mine. Like anything, there are pros and cons, but I prefer my large leveler to my small wire one.

I like mine, I use it to demonstrate with in the cake decorating classes I teach, showing it along with the smaller one. 80% of the time, students will purchase the larger one over the smaller one for a couple of reasons:
1) It will level larger cakes 2) The saw tends to cut easier than the wire.
With either the large or small...you need to go very slowly for a perfect cut.

i have the wire one and i find that it tends to pull rather than level it, so i always end up using a knife.

I love mine! Never had a problem using it, used it just this weekend. I do have the smaller one for reg size cakes, but I would be lost without the big one for sheet cakes.

I never use mine. I've had nothing but trouble with it. I'm unable to use it properly, I think. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I absolutely love mine, and use it for everything, even my 6" cakes.
Hate the small one, though!

I am so glad to hear that there are many people who like their's. Does anyone find it easier to cut the cake with the leveler while the cake is cold or is it better to use it when the cake is at room temperature? Thanks so much everyone!!!

I'm with jdelectables - I am unable to properly use mine also - everytime I tort/level a cake it always ends up unlevel!! I just decided that I was going to use a knife. I'm going to look into the Agbay when I can afford it!!!

If it wasn't for operator error I think it would be a great little tool - I just haven't figured out how to use it yet. Best of luck!! icon_smile.gif

I can't use the small wire one either and always end up using a knife. I find the cake easier to cut when it's cold, not frozen.

I LUV IT!! Cannot do a big cake or a sheet cake without it!

My cakes tend to rise higher than the pan, so I trim the cakes while they are still in the pan, as soon as they come out of the oven. My cakes go from oven to trimmed to cooling rack within 3 minutes.

The blade tends to bend one direction or the other with improper pressure and you have to watch that. When using the edge of the pan as a guide, I go pretty fast and git-r-dun! When the cake is out of the pan and being trimmed, I tend to go slower so I can watch the blade to make sure it stays straight. I use a sawing back-n-forth motion.

Make sure the feet are FLAT on the counter and the cake is on a sturdy base. I put my hands on the feet and do the sawing motion .... I don't put my hand on the top of the leveler.

Some cooling racks are flexible (if you can push on the top of the rack and it "gives" then DON'T use this when trimming your cake) and when the weight of the cake pushes the middle of the rack closer to the counter (hope I explained that ok), that can cause your trim-job to be out of whack.

I have both levelers, but I always use the large one, its great! Never had any problems with it, and about when to cut the cake, I rather do it when it is cold because I find there are less crumbs. icon_smile.gif

I have the large one and love it. I use the smaller one in class and I really dont care for it. But with all products you need to use what is comfortable to you.

I hate it. The blade is not tight enough and rotates as you cut which creates an uneven cut. I much prefer a knife. It would be great if they made it a little more stiff.

I just got mine...LOVE IT!! Had been making due with a "not long enough" knife for my larger cakes. I also have the smaller leveller also and I have never had problems with it.

I have the large one and like it. I work with 12" and 14" cakes and the large one is perfect for that sizes.

Don't like either one for various reasons. I have found that either very thin fishing line or waxed unflavored dental floss works the best when leveling and torting my cakes. thumbs_up.gif

I have both and prefer the BIG one - I actually have two of the big ones, one I keep for my use and the other one is packed in my teaching kit for Wilton's Course I. I level my cakes when they're completely cool - I don't refrigerate/freeze.

I also have both and prefer the larger one. I do have to be careful because of the "flemsy" blade to make sure it stays level and doesn't bend, but it works great for me.
I often put that rubbery shelf liner under the cake (if it's not still in the pan) to keep it from sliding while I'm cutting.

When I'm rich and famous I'll get a more expensive one-LOL!

I like mine. I can't say I love it because my blade also twists so it doesn't give a perfectly flat cut. I don't like the small one at all.

Ihave both the large and the small. Both get the job done, so I'm happy with them.
