HI

I'm so excited! Here are some pictures of my cake room in progress. There is still a lot to do, touch ups on the paint and putting my cupboards in and my island but I'm so excited I thought I'd post some pictures now. This room used to be the dungeon room. There was no dry wall and only concrete floors. It was lined with a whole bunch of make shift wooden shelves that went to the ceiling. (previous owner) It was dark and dingey in there, actually almost scary. We moved in last Dec and have been busy with other reno's but the whole house is coming along slowly.

This is what we have done to it so far. I know it's not top of the line or anything but we did it all ourselves and are happy with the progress!

Thanks for looking!

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Oh, I don't even have any of my cake stuff in there yet! I'm worried I'm not going to have enough space so if anyone has ideas on storage of cake pans and such I'd love to hear them!

Thanks!

I don't have any brilliant ideas for you. But I wanted to say that although you have not finished it ...it looks beautiful. I love the colors you have chosen. Once completed you both should be very proud of your accomplishments. I wish I could have a separate room for my hobby too.

I'm so jealous!!! I spent a great deal of time reorganizing my kitchen this weekend trying to make room for my ever-growing collection of cake stuff! I'm really just out of room. Now I see that I need to clear out the guest bedroom and make it a cake room!! I wonder if DH will go for that...?

LOL! The stool is my favorite part of the room! I only paid $13.00 for it (I think that's an awesome deal!)

Whwat fun colors! I am sure you will spend lots of productive hours in your new room.

Good luck with storage - it seems no matter how much you have you run out of space!

I have full extension drawers - which I love. Also, when we built my cabinets I asked for extra shelves, as I knew that I wanted a few to be narrow (about 4-5 inches high) - just enough to slide a plattter or my 'fancy' bundt cupcake pans - My husband thought it was strange, but they work great.

I love it!! I'm so jealous, I want a separate place to do my cakes. I am going to try and find a house with a full basement when I move, so I can turn it into my own little home bakery. I bought a nice tall cabinet at Walmart that I keep the pans I use most often and the others are in those big Rubbermaid storage containers. I have my cookie cutters in the containers too. I put my cake mixes and alot of the other small things in the storage cabinet and bought one of the cabinets that is all drawers (on rollers) and put my tips and colors and alot of my fondant tools in it.

The drawer cabinet was only about 20.00 and the storage cabinet was on clearance for 60.00. They make it so easy to keep things neat and in their place.

hi tammy, it looks great. is it the basement?? i love the paint job. its great. as for storing pans...they take up a lot of space..so just proper shelfing units for them.. and what ever pans can go in another pan do that. if you have character pans maybe you can hang those if you want to.

Okay add me to the I'M JEALOUS club!! Looks great! It's funny--my cake stuff is taking over my pantry! Soon my house and this is just for my kiddos and school stuff. I'd love to have a room just for all this stuff. Where did you get your big plastic containers? I need some that size--I need some for brining chicken and pork loins too.

how awesome...........as far as cake pan storage........what I plan to do when I get a cake room or cake garage in my case is put up some of those industrial stainless steel (cuz they're strong and I like contemporary stuff anyhow) shelves along the ceiling......then put the cake pans up there.......they're out of the way they don't take up room (the ceiling space is the only thing utilized) and you could easily keep them separated by size or shape and would be simple to attach a tag to the front of the shelf where the pans are to label what type, size of pan you have up there. Or if you have a blank wall you could hang a bunch of coat rack hooks or knobs and hang all the cake pans on them. Making a cake pan art wall! lol Then they would all be visible so you could quickly grab the ones you need. I don't know if you'd want to cover up that beautiful paint job you've got going in YOUR room though!!!

looks great! i'm in the process of designing one for myself. The only thing I have requested was a section on the countertop that is elevated (a little less than eye level) so I can decorate cakes easier. Even made out of a box with MDF that can be removed when it is not needed. It also has to be on a turn table, so I can spin the cake around 360 degrees.
Good luck with the rest! It does look great!

Thanks for all of the wonderful ideas!

kjgjam: Yes, this room is in the basement, I had to take what I could, my husband just wanted it to be storage but I just slowly suggested some ideas, told him I don't like the kitchen upstairs a mess - first room you see when you walk in from outside, have a hard time making dinner when I'm in the middle of a cake....you know all of the possible excuses LOL! I started thinking last night that I should've taken the bigger room downstairs but I guess I shouldn't get too greedy LOL!

I am so super jealous! I have been thinking about taking one of my bedrooms and turning it into a cake room, but I still have one daughter at home (college next year) one daughter who lives on her own (single mom) just waiting to see if she can make it on her own or if she will need to move back home. Just biding my time until I know it is safe to redecorate.

Now I understand when people say your children never leave home for good! LoL!

Thank you so much everyone! I wanted the room to be fun so I hope I've accomplished that.

The containers on the shelf (buckets) are big ice cream buckets I get from my local convenience store, she has tons of them! I put all my baking goods in there like chocolates, candies, sugars, caramels etc. I keep them all in there packages or bags and put into the buckets. The flour and white sugar will be kept in them without the bags, I'll just dump them right into the bucket.

There won't be a stove in there, I don't have a ventilation system, a window or even the outlet for a stove. We did consider it though, but didn't want to put too much money into that........I hope to have my own shop outside of the home one day....

Thanks for the wonderful comments!
