Okay Ladies, since you asked so sweetly, here is how I made these roses.
And no GrannyJ, I dont chew them.

You need chewing gum and round suckers. I used pink. You can use whatever color you want. Roll out chewing gum thinly . Brush a little water onto the sucker.
Using normal rose cutter or round cutter, cut out petals. Roll the top and side of each petal with a ball tool.
Cut out a small circle, cut this in half and roll onto top half of sucker. If it sticks, use a little cisco on sides.
Brush water on the sucker and continue placing your petals as you would normally do for roses.
It's very easy to make and children love these. They get to chew the gum and get a sucker at the same time. They also smell great.

sjlarby, you can use any kind of chewing gum as long as they as big pieces. I dont know what of gum you have wherever you are but here in Mauritius, we use a South African chewing gum called CHAPPIES. I'm sure you can get it there.

What kind of sucker are you using? I was think about the Dum Dums because a Tootsie Pop seems too big.

To make small roses, you will need to get the smallest sucker you can find.

At halloween, you can also get the mini tootsie pops. I think they may be a little smaller than the dum-dums. I'll probably make these more for my kids and their school classes than for cakes, but I'm sure they will love them. Thanks for the instructions. I may even let my kids try to make them. What a neat idea for a kids' party too.

You know (and this is where the lovely JanH comes in...) there are several ancient threads on these kind of roses -- bubblegum and tootsie roll roses. I'll see if I can't dig one or two up. If not, PM Jan (the master of the search thingy) and she'll know just where to find them. icon_biggrin.gif

icon_biggrin.gif Thanks so much for sharing Seaqueen!!! I love these, they look great. I do hope that mine will turn out as good. I must go buy lots of bubblegum now. My kids will think I've flipped my lid. icon_razz.gif

Can't wait to try it! So everything "sticks" together by wetting the gum with a little water first? Did I read that correctly? I have the hardest time with these type of roses....WISH ME LUCK! thumbs_up.gif

Do you just use one piece of gum per sucker/rose or do you need 2?

I've never seen this! What a great idea. I bet here bubbleyum or bubblicious would be good for this. I've never heard of the other one she was talking about.

randipanda, You take a whole bunch of chewing gum and roll out like you do fondant and then you cut out.

Those roses look great!

I did something similar last year, except with Tootsie Rolls and Starbursts.

I've seen Chocolate Bubblicious gum, but it's not sugar-free, so I have never tried it. But if it was good, that could be a possibility as well.
