I have a cake that I'll be finishing up tomorrow and my customer needs it for Saturday. I'm covering the cake and making borders with whipped topping (similar to rich's bettercream). I've already made some gumpaste flowers and my first ever bow icon_biggrin.gif BUT icon_eek.gif .....as I mentioned before...she needs it for SAT...which means she'll have to refrigerate it....will my gumpaste decorations melt from the whipped topping or the fridge?

I'm going to bed now but hopefully someone can help.

TIA Cindy

I've never done something with whipped topping before so take this with a grain of salt icon_smile.gif I would imagine if left on for some time the moisture in the whipped topping would melt some of the gumpaste. If they're thick it may not make much of an impact but if they're delicate I'd wait to put them until the last minute.

I dont think you should have to worry about the gumpaste I know that fondant would not hold up well but gumpaste should be okay..

Can you quickly cover a small cakeboard that will fit on the top of your cake? Use cardboard covered in press-n-seal if you have nothing else...then cover that in fondant/gumtex or 50/50 fondant/gumpaste...then put the flower and bow on that....give that to your client to put on the cake on Saturday...that way the flowers won't droop or wilt..in the whipped topping....I don't think it is a good idea to put the flowers directly on that if it is not the same day.

I could be wrong about how they will hold up contacting that type of icing ....I regularly have to put stuff...gumpaste/fondant etc and they have been alright but nothing has ever contacted whipped frosting...
