but I plan to sell pies too.

I have a really nice oak leaf lattice cutter that I use on my apple pies. It really is a stunning presentation and my apple pies are very well received.

Well, I'm going to a fair where I'll be showing my products/taking orders on November 1st. I plan to have, in addition to a couple of cakes, some decorated cookies, tea cakes and my portfolio and an apple pie.

My idea is to sell the pies and put a deposit on the ceramic pie plate. I would sell them in the cheapo tin pie plates if people wish, or for a bit more (as the pies are bigger) I would sell the ones with beautiful pie plates and charge them a deposit which would be returned when they return the pie Plate. Or, I could sell the entire thing as a "gift package" Baked pie AND pie plate.

So, three options I would offer to customers - pie in a tin pie plate - for $, deeper dish pie in ceramic pie plate for $$ plus $ (returnable) and lastly, deep dish pie in a pie plate they will keep for $$$.

What do you think? I'm thinking if people want to take a pie to Thanksgiving, they could pull it off as if they baked it! or it could make a really nice gift to the host.

Oh, and I'm planning on making sweet potato pie, fresh pumpkin pie and Apple pie for this "season".

Yeah sounds wonderful, I am just not sure about the return one. I would think most people wouldn't want to do that, not that it isn't a nice idea, just can't see that working to well. The sell both as a package is nice though. icon_biggrin.gif

I think the idea in general is a good one................but I wouldnt mess with deposites on the returnable ones.I would bake them in tins and in the the ceramic for a nice gift.
I sell pies like crazy at the holidays...................I put them in 10 inch deep dish pie tins and I charge $15(pumpkin,sweet potato, coconut custard)
$18(apple,cherry-cran,straw-rhubarb)
$28(deep dish caramel apple)

Good Luck!

Thank you for the price breakdown! I was going to research that this evening!

So, what makes teh Caramel Apple more? Plus, I find making a sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie from scratch more expensive and more time consuming than apple pie (I do have that apple peeler/slicer/corer to make my life MUCH easier)... Not criticizing as I'm totally new to pricing, just trying to figure it all out.

Deep dish caramel apple pie is actually made in a springform pan........pecan shortbread crust,3lbs granny smith, caramel, more pecans, crumb topping.....serves 12-14... stands about 4 inches high.Reallllllllllly Good!
My double crust apple in 10 inch pie tin is $18
Fruit pies are more costly for me.........maybe its because of were I live..... icon_confused.gif don't no?
