Bump - no one is going to anwer this? I'm curious how many home bakers make in a week. I'm "hoping for 4 a week or it's equivalent in pies/tea breads and cookies.

Unfortunately, I am not up to snuff on my cakes; therefore, I don't sell any. I give away probably one a week.
I average out to about 4-6 a week. Some weeks I like it like that, but right now with cheerleading, softball, etc. I get a little overwhelmed.
I just started doing cakes a few months ago after a long time of not doing them (20+ years) - and am loving it. I have two orders for this weekend and two for next weekend (one birthday, one one going away party, one grooms cake, and one bridal shower cake). I work full-time, too (two jobs, in fact) but still manage to find time for a cake or two a week. I think that's about as much as I can handle right now. I don't want to get overwhelmed.

I know what you mean, Momof4luvscakes. I'm a pastor's wife, work, football and bible college plus cakes!!! It can make a person want to runaway from home.
I do 3-4 a month. It can vary depending on the time of year. I do mostly birthdays and major holidays. I have to keep in mind it's a HOBBY, not a job. (I teach 20 hours a week.)
Im not selling any either I just keep hoping and Im not giving up just yet . One day I will be making more than I can keep up with .
no more than one a week! I can't do anymore than that and still chase a 9 month old around the house
My biggest week was 14 cakes, which included a wedding cake. I will never, NEVER do that again. I had quit my job & felt like I couldn't turn-away business... A few of the cakes were pretty plain, but with a wedding cake, I will now take 1-2 other orders, if it's a small wedding cake. I just had 2 weeks of wedding cakes. The first week included 8 cakes which were all different flavors, so I didn't take any extra orders, and the 2nd week was even bigger - 11 cakes included! (5 tier stacked fondant wedding cake, 4 back-up sheet cakes, plus a groom's cake shaped into a "ball & chain" AND a "Brides cake", which was a mini 3 tier cake, very cute).............. so, that is the LAST time I will take such orders, because I'm pregnant with twins!
So, "before pregnancy", I averaged 8-12 cakes/wk.
Now that I'm pregnant, I average 1-3 cakes (MAX).
After the babies come... who knowS?!! I'm taking a "leave of absence" 2.5 months before (since I'm having twins & MAY be on bedrest, I can't take any orders!)... and then 3 months after. I don't want to have to think about cakes when I have my babies to think about! Who will want to do cake then! =)
You'll probably be too tired. I have an 8 month old and when she was smaller, I would put her in one of those Baby Bjorn things, and she would sleep while I got a cake finished. Now if I hold her and try and decorate, she will try to poke in fingers. Now I stay up late to get my cake work done.
two or one in a month... I'm embarassed
I know you guys do a lot more than that.. Mine is only hobby. I do it when I feel like it.
I'm a full time decorator for Costco, so we average about 500 a week between three of us. At home on the side, the orders come in sometimes once a week, sometimes I will go for months without doing one. I'm not trying to run my own cake business, so it is very sporratic. If I was trying to run a business at home, I would shoot for 5-10 a week. At my own bakery, 5-10 a day.
OCakes- Congrats on having twins! I also have twins, they are almost nine months, plus I have a 2 year old and let me tell ya... it's not easy!
I didn't get into cakes till after they were born. I can't do that many but I find that it's kinda like a break for me, so I think you'll probably still want to do them after they start sleeping through the night and you get some energy back!
It depends, sometimes I get 4 in a week sometimes none, and I even did 350 doughnuts this week, well today actually!!!
Ocakes congrats on the twins!!!!
OCakes...ditto on what flavocakes said. I also have twins that are 21 months. When the dr says bedrest, listen to him/her. I physically could not have been on my feet long enough to bake a cake and my stomach was too huge to even consider decorating one! Post birth, the sleep deprivation eliminated any desire to bake and decorate! But once the twins start sleeping through the night, things get much easier. Twins are wonderful...congratulations and enjoy!
As for how many cakes, I only do 1-2 a month. It is a hobby for me since I work full time.
Well, lately I have been doing atleast 4 a week. That is too much for me, but these are steady clients (for both cakes and at my salon) so I have a hard time saying no. I try to squeeze it in between my daughter's ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, piano and school. And then working at the salon and trying to keep my house in some sort of order. I keep thinking it will slow down "next week" but the next week always ends up just as busy. I shouldn't complain though, it just makes for a bigger down payment on that new house!!!!!
wow that's remarkable KCD!...and just 3 of you!
i worked at a place where we had like 200 every saturday....but there were like 7 decorators.
i read on another message board that costco cakes were really tasty, THANK GOODNESS THERES NO COSTCO HERE!
I've been doing about 1-2 a week. I am sure that will slow down now though. I don't sell them, they are just for family and friends.

I go anywhere from 8 cakes some weeks to 1 on others. last week I had just 1 this week I already have 4. i also ad 2 wedding tastings last week. I have a 10 month old 13yr old and a 10 yr old and trust me getting anything done is an accomplishment!!!!
some weeks are good some or slow...one week i had 10 the following week i had 6 this past week i had 8, this weekend coming up i have 4 so far(week just startred) ......
doing cake is just a hobby for me. Last year I made about 2 a month that I sold. But I make some for neighbors birthday's and different celebrations at my husbands work., those I just do for free.
I'd love to be doing 3-4 a week in party cakes on a regular basis, but if I had a big/complicated wedding cake, I think I'd do just that one and maybe 1 party cake a week. Currently though I do anywhere from none to 3 a week, but business is on the up (let's hope I didn't just jinx myself !).
Last week I did 5 plus an order of Barney cookies. This week I only had 3 cakes. I would have liked a couple more. I prefer 5 a week but sometimes the business isn't there yet!
My biggest week was 42 cakes. Some 6,8 and 10 inches. Individual cakes for each table at a wedding. But I have to confess, I only had to frost and shell them. The bride and bridesmaids did all the decorating. It was fun and the cakes were all very unique.
