...OMG I think I'm going to drop!! I entered 3 cake categories for the bakery expo in A.C. on Oct.21st. I finished the "miniature wedding cake" and spent about 4 days making a perfect topper/top tier for my "rolled icing" category cake. So, here I am making this extremely elaborate cake with a toy theme. The whole thing was to look like old fashioned wooden toys. The topper was a glorious Jack-in-the-box (which is what took me 4 days to complete).
So...I was curious about something regarding the show and whipped out the flyer to verify something.....this is when I realized that the "rolled icing" category ALSO had to be a wedding cake. HOLY SH**!!!!! icon_eek.gif I must have misread it and I thought it could be any style cake.

What the heck do toys have to do with a wedding???? icon_confused.gif I'm so bummed that my sketch (which took hours of research) will not come to life!!! Worse is that I have to somehow transform what I already made into a wedding cake!!! I have an idea but it will take a lot of time. icon_cry.gif

Between now and Oct. 21st....I have been commissioned to paint a portrait (of a dog!!)...I have to make my sister's engagement party cake ...I have to finish the toy wedding cake icon_cool.gif ....and complete my 3rd entry for the competition!!! Not to mention 2 giant orders the week after....in the midst of Halloween and then my 10 year wedding anniversary the day after that. I'm supposed to be going away and I haven't even booked my flights yet!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_sad.gificon_sad.gif

sorry...but this is my much-needed break from the nightmare cake. Someone please tell me it will be ok!!!!

Can you change the jack in the box to be bride and groom? So its a couple getting married that love toys or met at a toy store or make toys. Or is that the solution that will take days? Sorry this happened to you but I have looked at your photos many times before and feel confident that you will pull it off.

lol , sorry...but I know just how you feel when I post and no one bothers to answer me..but when I post my "OPINION" in a thread...it gets everyone's knickers in an uproar..hahaha.

You MAY just have to hire someone to just come in and bake the cakes for you to take that job off your shoulders!

When she was very busy she hired someone to come in and bake her cakes and make the icing. So all she had to worry about was the decorating! It worked out well, because she hired someone that was NOT interested in working full time.

You are very talented and I KNOW you can turn that toy wedding cake into a wedding cake! ..you can make one of those madame alexander bride dolls with a teddy bear or clown groom? or how about a Raggedy Ann and Andy wedding topper? or Mr. N Mrs. Teddy bear? get the idea?

I finally broke down and I have a "volunteer" to help me make those cake balls for that big party and ever since I've let them look at the Debbie Brown book, they have been trying to make the dolls from Debbies cakes..lol

They look a bit grusome, but, I just breathe....sigh and allow them to be used..lol

PS: I thought about going behind his back and just making a new one and replacing them...but, I don't want to discourage new talent! lol

So, baby girl...prop your feet up, relax for about a second and look around to see who you can buttonhole to give you a bit of a hand!

take care!

You can do it....it will be ok...
now...can you do some of the other baking ahead of time and freeze the cakes to free up some of your time? What about taking the toy cake and making a pop up bride and groom or just the bride for a "bride in the box". It is an insane thought...just so your box for jack does not go to waste. You are one busy young girl...so GOOD LUCK....we are all rooting for you and waiting for pics.... thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Jeeze wished I lived near you as I'm still new to decorating and not all that good at it but I do make a really mean cake and I love to bake. Heck I'd do all the baking for you then you could just worry about the decorating lol. But you'll get thru it fine I have confidence and just think how much more you'll enjoy your anniversary trip after all this.

Make a list... icon_surprised.gif Okay, maybe not!
I think a bride and groom in the jack in the box would be really cute. And I think RisqueBusiness's idea of hiring someone to bake for you is excellent...but that' just MY opinion icon_wink.gif
Take it a step at a time, girl-you'll work it out!

Dodi....that is EXACTLY what I'm counting on!!! I stopped feeling sorry for myself....thanks for everyone's support - I knew you were out there...

RB...(My knickers are just fine) I'm buying you a ticket to JFK....will you bake for me? Or...you can send the cakes on a plane to me... icon_biggrin.gif Seriously...I think this is an idea I will definately consider. There are two great bakeries in my neighborhood...I think I will pay them a visit....at least for my sister's cake.

I'm forcing my tired self to stay up a little longer to get over the "hump" of the basic cakes....

tomorrow I will decorate them...and add a "toy" bride that will be kissing "Jack". Wierd? yes! Unique? Definately!!!

I am soooo glad I logged on!

Thanks again....

I have viewed all your work(cakes and artwork) and YOU can do ANYTHING. Your work is beautiful. Did you get a chance to look at the post with the Mario Wedding Cake? Everyone including me oohhh and ahhhhed at it. I am thinking a toy wedding cake would be great and original. You may not get too much sleep, but I am sure you create something awesome. Whatever you decide, please post a picture of when you are finished.

Goodluck!

You are an amazing decorator and whatever you create is a masterpiece! I wish I were there to help you too, but I would probably be watching you with my jaw to the floor so I wouldn't be much help at all. Can't wait to see your creations!

Good luck!

O.K. I know that there are some cc bakers and decorators out there that live close enough to help her out with the baking and maybe making the icing. It would be a good way to make a new friend. I'm sorry that I don't live close to you because I'd definitely help you but I'm wayyyyyy in Louisiana. I'm sure that you can do it. If push comes to shove, is it possible to buy a couple of plain cakes from the local bakeries? Someone please help her out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just so I could watch you decorate them. I also think a toy themed wedding cake would be AWESOME!! Anyways, I believe in you and can't wait to see pics of your newest creations.

I know I am a newbie here and I might say the wrong things sometimes but as a mom of many, I have a suggestion. Do you have a wall planner where you take your orders? I have a very busy life and found this to be a lifesaver as I have done 'oopsies' like this before too. Hey we're only human, right?! Oh I so enjoyed your pictures. You are an amazing artist!

Ok, this might sound really, really stupid....but maybe you could turn that cake into a disney wedding cake. I see them on TV all the time. You could use "Toy Story" theme. I mean if people put mickey and minnie all over their wedding cake, why not a jack in the box? Add a veil or a top hat to the figure coming out of the cake. Toy Story has several characters that I am sure you could mold out of fondant or marzipan between now and then. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Why not turn it into a Christmas themed wedding cake with all the beautiful wooden toys? If you can somehow incorporate the toys, I am sure that would be absolutely stunning!! I can't wait to see what you come up with! You are so creative, I am sure that it will be brilliant.

Well a Jack in the box "Pops" the big question, could work as a wedding cake, just give him a pillow with the ring on it (with a humongous diamond of course).
You'll do it, your cakes are so awesome, can hardly wait for all the photos

I would still do the cake. I had a friend do a wedding cake of skulls. My input is that if a bride would come to you and ask for a toy themed wedding cake would you turn it away. I dont think so - you would put on your thinking cap and design something they would like. I think you should run with it. Maybe you could put a bride and groom inside the box.
