Homemade Vs. Store Bought Fondant

I have a question about fondant. There is a cake that I want to cover in fondant (a 2 tiered flattened ball shaped cake) and since I am slightly a beginner with rolling fondant, I was wondering if there is a difference in how easy it is to work with depending on whether you buy it or make it. The cake I want to make uses MMF, and I read that the best fondant to buy is Satin Ice. Which is easier to work with?

I am a big believer in Satin Ice. looooooove it!

Personally.. I like store bought fondant. I have made MMF before and it's okay, but I can never get 2 batches to come out quite the same. For this reason I buy my fondant. I buy Fondex, but Satin Ice gets rave reviews. I haven't tried it yet but plan to. Stay away from the wilton stuff if people are going to eat it.. wilton fondant is only good for figures if you ask me. icon_biggrin.gif

I love Satin Ice. I have tried MMF, too messy. I have not tried Fondex but would like too. Most cakes I make are with BC. I cant convince anyone that fondant can be good. They have only had Wilton. (yuck)

ditto poster above. Satin Ice is as easy to use as any fondant and tastes great.

If you don't have much experience with fondant, I would go with Satin Ice. After you work with fondant a little more then you may want to try homemade. I think you need to get a feel for fondant first before you start making your own.
