I have a question about fondant. There is a cake that I want to cover in fondant (a 2 tiered flattened ball shaped cake) and since I am slightly a beginner with rolling fondant, I was wondering if there is a difference in how easy it is to work with depending on whether you buy it or make it. The cake I want to make uses MMF, and I read that the best fondant to buy is Satin Ice. Which is easier to work with?
Personally.. I like store bought fondant. I have made MMF before and it's okay, but I can never get 2 batches to come out quite the same. For this reason I buy my fondant. I buy Fondex, but Satin Ice gets rave reviews. I haven't tried it yet but plan to. Stay away from the wilton stuff if people are going to eat it.. wilton fondant is only good for figures if you ask me.
I love Satin Ice. I have tried MMF, too messy. I have not tried Fondex but would like too. Most cakes I make are with BC. I cant convince anyone that fondant can be good. They have only had Wilton. (yuck)
If you don't have much experience with fondant, I would go with Satin Ice. After you work with fondant a little more then you may want to try homemade. I think you need to get a feel for fondant first before you start making your own.
