Sorry if this has been asked too many times before, but I searched and couldn't find a response. Do any of you use a church kitchen for a licensed business? I live in TX and can't find any solid info on this.

Church kitchens are licensed differently...some are only licensed with limitations, like, "Food will be served no more than 3 times per 90 days." Then it would require an upgrade to have it licenced differently...at least that's how it is in CA. And the city planning said that it would cost at least $3000 to get that upgrade....also, if they are licensed under charity or not-for-profit, they said there is no way to also get licencing for a business....

They make it look so easy on TV....'just rent space from your local church kitchen'....but it is not that easy! icon_cry.gif You have to find a church with a commercial kitchen that is already licensed for re-sale and then try to rent from them... I hope the TX laws are different and I hope I didn't confuse things.... TC icon_smile.gif

You can use a church kitchen, but the health inspector needs to comeout, do a walk through and and give you a food permit in your name.
FYI- I've heard that the city inspector for GP is pretty nice to deal with. thumbs_up.gif

If you are in business for profit it is a problem for a not-for-profit to let you use their facility. That would be an IRS issue -- so true in any state.
