try this www.aclifts.com It just looks like a H on a pole icon_confused.gif
Theres really not much in the way of cake, unless it was a car cake on the lift. It's sounds like a cake for Duff.

well, you just answered w/ my suggestion! thumbs_up.gif

do the base as a sheet cake on top of a 3/4 in plywood base so you can have a strong dowel coming up through the cake.

the sheet cake would look like a concrete floor in a car shop -- oil stains, tools laying around, mechanics big tall tool box off to one side (that can be cake too!), etc. Fondant figure of guy working on car (for grins and giggles, do him w/ a big ol' oil stain down his front, oil on his face, standing in a puddle of oil -- oops!)

pole is a wooden dowel.

the H can be cut from wood or metal and attached to the top of the pole w/ a screw.

then a cake car on top (peeing oil all over our poor car mechanic)

below are sketches of base and rising pole concept --- in this case the pole would have a flat top.

also a sketch for the tool chest -- this is for a really big one -- same concept for smaller except could be just two solid layers of cake: one for base cabinet and one for top chest.
