Start with your per serving price x 30, add extra for fondant decos, and if you charge for smash cakes, add that. I do free smash cakes.

A smash cake is for a babies first birthday. The "smash" cake is the cake the baby gets to go at. It can be the top of a cake like the one in the picture here, or a little cake that mimicks the design of the bigger cake.

it is usually a 4" small cake that the child gets just for themselves on their 1st birthday and they usually end up "smashing" their faces into it..hense smash cake.

I would charge 30 x 3.50 for a total of $105. I do not charge for smash cakes.

Thank you so much!!

I charged $93 for BC and fondant accents. Deducting $8 if she decided not to do fondant accents.

Does that sound like a decent price?

I always Undercharge myself. I feel bad asking for a lot of money since I am not a "professional". I also want to stay competitive w/ other bakers...

Please give your opinion. Thanks icon_smile.gif

I am definitely not a professional, and it is a beautiful cake. $90 would probably be too expensive for the area that I am, but depending on where you live it may be completely approriate. The cake certainly took a lot of work! According to the way I price I would probably charge about $60. But, again, I couldn't have done as nice a job as you have done! It really is a beautiful cake! thumbs_up.gif

I think you could do a wonderful job on this design!!!

I live in Baltimore, MD so people here are used to paying for things...I just have to get used to charging for things! icon_lol.gif

My husband says I undercharge, but when you are trying to get customers it is really easy to do! You want to price so you get repeat customers! I never think my skills are really worth pricing as much as I need to, but then again I quess we are our own worst critics, right? I am never 'quite' happy with the way they turn out, and always see something that needs to be done. My DH is the one who normally comes in and tells me when a cake is finished, otherwise I just keep fixing, and smoothing and adding 'just one more' of whatever I am doing! But, that is a whole 'nother topic!

I don't really have any suggestions for prices. I usually undercharge. In my area most people just don't want to pay. I usually charge 1.75 per serving.
But what I wanted to say was I love your cake and I love that you call your little girl "Chunky". I know she is probably just precious. I have a 6 mo. old grandson and he is already over 20 lbs. That name would apply to him too.
Good luck with your cake.

Beezaly,

I think for your area $90 is right on target. I don't charge for the smash cake either since I normally use the leftovers from other cakes - frozen of course.

Thanks so much!

She has def. outgrown the 'chunky' name. As soon as she started walking she slimmed right out. icon_smile.gif

I still call her my chunkster though. icon_biggrin.gif

I thought $90 sounded pretty decent...haven't heard anything from the potential customer...we'll see.
