I have two cake orders for this Sunday, both are master's degree celebrations. One is a degree in Human Resources (have no clue what to do for that), the other is Management information systems. I was thinking of putting the school logos but don't have a clue what else to put besides a grad hat and scroll. Both cakes are for the same place and I wanted to personalize each one. Any ideas?? I would greatly appreciate some help on this. TIA
Jennifer
You could find out what their master's hoods look like and maybe incorporate that into the design. The design of master's hoods is different from college to college and sometimes different for each department. That would be nice with school logos, grad hat, the year, etc.
Does the college have a mascot, flower, tree, or other symbol you could use?
You could make a sheetcake that actually looks like a framed diploma on top?
Or maybe find out what job or company they're going to work for?
Also you could look through brochures or maybe you know of iconic buildings on campus that you could incorporate into the design?
Just brainstorming here...hope it helps.
Hi, I happen to have a MIS degree. What you could do for that cake is do the computer theme. You could do a floppy disk, or little bugs (to indicate bugs in the software, lol) or little mice (to indicate a computer mouse)
In the 1997 yearbook they have a cake that has little Wilton candles that are shaped like computers, and then little mice mice all around. It's very cute.
Go to the wilton site for cake ideas

In the search box type in Graduation. There are plenty of ideas to spark your creativity.
You could do something really simple and modern and then make up little graduation hats or diplomas (or just buy them) and place around the cake.
Something along these lines

I was thinking for the HR masters, you could put cute little faces (BC or fondant) around the sides and still keep the top as the grad hat and scroll. And then the IFS masters, you could make the sides either -- little computers/floppy disks/or to look like a circuit or something...there is a pic on here of what I'm thinking of...I'll go try to find it.
Okay--forgive me ---I am not very computer savvy. I don't know how to create a link to a certain page (I've tried ) Anyway, the cake I'm thinking of is titled "Rich's Going away Cake" It's in the uncategorized cakes --other about 1/2 way through. if you do a search , keywords are circuit & computer. Hope this helps!
heres that cake you wre talking about

HR seems to involve tons of paperwork. You could do one of a typewriter with typing that has the name and graduation date and maybe an interests bio, or what about a resume cake? They'll be looking for a job now.
Information manager.... hmmm.... a cup of java with the info. as foam floating on top? Or how about a "matrix" look and the binary code spelling out the information?
I mean name and graduation dates or message as info., just to be clear.
Finally finished! I tried to make the 3D grad cap but I had so much trouble with the fondant...still learning....Everything that could go wrong DID. The cakes didn't turn out the way I wanted so I'm a little dissapointed, but it was 4am and I was working on another large sheet cake (two 1/2 sheets together) at the same time., and I was TIRED! The degree's came out ok but overall pretty plain by cake decorating standards. The customer loved them so at least he was pleased with them. I am posting the cakes in the gallery. Thanks for everyone's ideas, I have another degree cake coming up so I have an idea now of how I'm going to do it.
