In general how long does it take for ...
fondant decorations to dry? Or do you want to put them on the cake when they are still plyable?
gumpaste?
royal icing?
If you are working with something flat vs. a figure or something a bit thicker like a rope? I obvisously am not allowing enough time and then I am caught in a pickle for how I will rework my designs.
TIA!!! I'm getting so frustrated
Fondant decorations can be added when they are still pliable or dried, depending on the application. If you need them to curve on the cake, fresh is better. Depending on the heat/humidity it can take days for fondant to dry.
Gumpaste petals can be dry in 20 minutes, heavier items, at least over night. Same for Royal icing. Again, humidity will play a part in how long it can take.
You can also add gumpaste to your fondant decorations to speed up their drying time! Just do a mix of 50/50. It dries much quicker than fondant alone.
Thank you. So now my question is...
If I need something to have a curve when dry - will it be hard enough not to sag if nothing is underneath it to support it? ex. - a handle to something
If I make it at 11 PM and I need it for 11 AM is that enough time for gumpaste to dry hard?
Thx again!
12 hours should be enough time to dry. If you need something curved, do you have something curved you can lay it over? Flower formers, a bowl, etc?
12 hours will work if you add gumpast to your fondant. I have a small portable fan on my table that I let blow over it during drying and that speeds it up but I would allow a minimum of 12 hours. I read on here somewhere to place them in the oven with just the light on over night. Well, that person must not have used marshmallow fondant because when I got up in the morning they had puffed up like the staypuff marshmallow man. Actually made for a very interesting bow in the long run but not what I intended.
