I voted yes, I am LEGAL LICENSED Home Baker as of May 2007. Before I advertised via word of mouth...and just decided if I was going to do this, I was going whole hog, rofl.....
I am still in the practicing stages. I have sold a few cakes at a fundraiser earlier this year.
I am a stay at home mom, and a fully LEGAL baker!!!! I have a second kitchen in my basement just for my business, and it is wonderful!!!!! I get to do what I love and stay home doing the other thing I love....raising the kiddos.

I have just started this year. I am only in the practice stage. I have potiental customers already. We are going to build our home and I will put in a cake kitchen. It isn't going as fast as I want but nothing ever does. I should be a pro by then.
I am legal as far as my state and my county are considered. I work under the "cottage food" laws which mean as long as I properly label all of my foods and don't use anything that needs refrigerated (ganache, some fillings, cheesecakes etc) then I can sell w/o an inspection or a license. I live in a village that is zoned. I am probably violoating some kind of zoning law but i'm not saying anything to them at this point because even if I were to try and get some kind of variance or rezoned, i'm 99% sure they would shoot me down just because the owner of our local bakery is a member of a family that all but started our local business district and we live in small enough town that they would find a reason to deny me just based on that. We have one township in our area that is unzoned and as soon as we are in a position to buy a house that is where we will be looking.

Me too, it's the greatest thing to be so blessed to have the best of both worlds...it is a little challenging at times to run a business and take care of my kids, and somehow give them the attention they deserve...but we manage!
hahahaha I'm such a goober. When I first saw the discussion title, "Are You Legal?" I thought it was talking about being a legal citizen. I was thinking, "why would someone be asking that question?"
Just thought I'd share that. When I do something like that my hubby says there's gotta be blonde roots under my brown.
I think I'm too tired. I'll go to bed now.
i'm with peytonsmommy on this one! i'm legal by ohio's cottage industry rules. i would have voted, but there's no spot in your poll for this option.
No, I am not currently legal but I have just recieved a grant form the gov. of Ontario to start my new business. They have sent me for a 4 week business course which I began this week. I am a stay at home mom and will be renovating a room in my basement to make cakes. Hopefully I will be operating an about 2 months give or take.
I'm legal, but not licensed -- Like others, I'm operating under Ohio's "Cottage Foods" requirements.
At the risk of sounding dumb, what do you mean when you say your legal but not licensed. I live in NJ and Im sure the rules are different.

ohio has cottage laws which allow bakers to bake from home legally without getting licensed by the health dept. the only rule is they can't sell anything that requires refrigeration. i think ohio is the only state with this law, and its in place due to the amish population.
I guess I can consider myself legal under the Idaho standards, that you don't have to be licensed to have a home bakery. But I am working on getting my business license and tax id so I can really legally sell out of my home. Eventually I want to own my own bakery in town.

Me too!!! Under the Ohio Cottage law. I will eventually have a state inspection just because I can and it only cost ten buck a year to be licensed by the health dept. I do eventually plan on moving to a home with a bigger kitchen so I can have my own freezer and fridge for my cake stuff. I guess I will also have to get tax ID so I can shop at the Flower Factory.
