This cake was due on Wednesday morning, so on Tuesday afternoon I started working on a sculpted cake of a puppy with a birthday cake. I've done these over and over again for a video, so got it down to a science and didn't think I'd need too much time to get it done. You know, start it early, get it over with, have time to sit in front of the tv and eat ice cream for the rest of the day. icon_lol.gif

Well, I got the yard all base-coated and the dog on top was nearly completely smoothed out, just about ready to start putting some details on it. No problem, I'm going to make that appointment with my half-gallon of chocolate fudge ice cream with time to spare.

Evidently I'd scooted the cake too close to the edge of the counter and wasn't thinking about how uneven the weight is on this cake, because of the puppy on one side of it. I turned the cake to look at the other side of it and tipped the balance and down it went, right to the floor!

I just stood there for a minute, watching all that green icing becoming one with the grout in my tile floor, and the thought popped into my head that even before I woke up this morning, God knew I'd knock that cake to the floor, and He knew I could handle it. Who am I to prove Him wrong? icon_rolleyes.gif So, I picked it up, took a picture of it to show my CC friends because who else could appreciate the whole drama of it, haha, and cleaned up my floor.

It sure hurt throwing so much away. Thank goodness for extra cake in the freezer and plenty of icing. I couldn't even save the boards the cake was on because it landed on a corner and bent them. I was seriously late for my appointment with the chocolate fudge ice cream, but in the end, it turned out to be one of my favorite animal cakes ever.

The finished cake is in My Photos here:

What a bummer! At least you knocked it before it was finished and had too much detail on. The end result looks fantastic! icon_smile.gif

Oh my gosh!! This is the cake I just commented on!! icon_lol.gif I love the finished cake, you did a fabulous job!
I would still be in the floor crying my eyes out and kicking myself around in a circle (having a fit)! I am so sorry this happened to you, but so glad you were able to push forward!!!! And succeed so beautifully!!! icon_biggrin.gif

It must have been the thoughts of that ice cream that helped you get through this...hahahaha icon_lol.gif

You'll never believe it, toomuchcake. Tonight I was making brownies and cookies to send to my son in Afghanistan and I knocked my flour container on the floor. Because of how well you handled your much worse situation, I just worked around it until I could get enough of the cookies done before I cleaned it up. The container is large, but thankfully, it only had about 4 pounds of flour in it.

Thanks for your story and keeping a cool head.

Thanks, Michele! I'm sure your son will be glad to get those cookies. I'm glad you didn't lose much flour.

Thanks for encouragement. icon_smile.gif

Well, all I have to say is that you have a great attitude. I would have freaked out!
On one of those Challenge Shows, I heard one of the chefs say something like "there's no crying in cake" and I'm thinking "Whatever. Almost every cake make me cry at some point!"

Yikes! If that had happened to me, I think I would have passed out! Then I would have cried while eating that ice cream, only to laugh myself silly about it over the next couple days.

You are so right - God did know you were going to knock that cake off before you got out of bed that morning. Thank you so much for saying that! I really needed to be reminded of that this morning - I think He directed me to this post!
Excellent recovery. Have a great day!

I have done this icon_eek.gif ....I did cry icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif ....I did say a few naughty words icon_evil.gificon_evil.gif ....and cried icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif somemore. I did not however apply your grace and attitude. Should it happen again, I will remember this and the chocolate icecream.
