My brother in law is a brick layer and I had thought of some cute ideas for a cake for him too.
Don't forget the mortar. You could also make a small "brick wall" and maybe some ivy "growing" on it. You could even have a guy banging his head against it. (LOL)
I also thought of a round cake, several layers with small bricks on it, maybe made out of fondant to look like a wall or column in progress.
I hope this makes sense. I have it pictured in my head, not sure if I'm making sense though.
Do one brick laying down and one brick kinda propped up on it. Make a trowel out of gumpaste or fondant/gum-tex mix to sit next to it. Make other tools they they use the same way.
OR You could do a cake to look like a brick wall with a little guy molded standing next to it working on it.
A cute saying for it would be, " Bob and Jane....building a strong foundation for their future"
thank you soo much guys these ideas sound great. do you think it would be easy to make the tools??? im not sure what they look like.
There's probably a mold out there. It seems like they have one for everything! I'm sure if you practice it before, you can come up with some great tools!
cool thanks those would be fairly easy to make ot of fondant or gum paste. what do you think of this ......... either square or round base cake with the loaf pan brickes on top with the tools. for the sides of the base cake ice them brick red and then take grey icing and draw grout lines. (is that what its called grout) would that be tacky looking????
Ohhhh, I hope this isn't too late! Here is an actual bricklayer cake with the stacked bricks and the trowel. here is the link:
