for buying fondant (any particular brand is good?), colour pastes and tools?

Also, is writing pen (is this the right name?) available in Australia?

I have only been to Iced Affairs in Camperdown (NSW) which is a great store but they are expensive; also, I don't drive so it was awkward having to carry a 3kg fondant etc back on the bus. I'd rather order online (or ring to place an order) and get them delivered this time.

I'll need these things in early Nov..

I'd appreciate your help and suggestions. thanks

Hi Violet
Im in Melbourne Australia. I often use Orchard icing bought directly from the manufacturer. If you order 24kg of it you get free shipping. This is a heck of a lot of icing, but for me it tends to go quickly ; )
The price of orchard is around $3.6 per kilo.
Here is the orchard website, i love their red and green fondant, it makes life a lot easier than having to color ; )
http://www.orchardicing.com/
I have also bought icing from Sweet Inspirations, they are in New South Wales, the icing i've bought from them is fondX my favourite icing of all time, that is about $4 per kilo, well worth it, but it comes in buckets at $20 per bucket. This is their website

For all other supplies, boards, etc, i usually buy from Bakery Sugarcraft. The cake boards there are sooo soooo cheap compared to anywhere else. They charge a flat fee of $10 for shipping, but if you order a lot, this tends to dissapear into the savings you make from buying lots of stuff from them. If you order any boards or fragile things from Bakery Sugarcraft make sure you tell them to package them well, somehow if you dont mention it they forget to do so, dunno how they can work like that BUT if something does arrive damaged, they will usually replace it.

Good luck Violet
Cheers
Nati
PS: Bakery sugarcraft also has Bakels icing and modelling pastes.

Hi Violet,
The writing pens you want are usually called food writers. Wilton has them but quite expensive - a box of 5 is AUD19.95. Try you local cake decorating store and ask for Giotto Turbo Colour. Bought a box of 12 colours for AUD4.95 from my local store in Melbourne. I have also managed to buy edible glitter pens from the store. They look like normal gel/glitter pens that kids use.
Hope this helps.

I can't thank all of you enough for the very useful info icon_smile.gif

I ended up ordering everything from Bakery Sugarcraft because they are so friendly. I rang one of the big online stores in Melb but becuase they were very busy, the guy I spoke to, got impatient with me, didn't even say 'sorry' (did tell me they were busy and for me to ring back) and hung up. So, I decided not to order from them. It probably worked out better cause bakery Sugarcraft is in NSW and the postage would have been cheaper.

I am yet to finalise my order with them. Am still in the planning stage for the cake...........wish me luck. Oh, the theme will be 'Lunar jim' - my son (nearly 5) loves this program (www.lunarjim.com)

Thanks again icon_smile.gif

Kylie and Nati,

How do you get yur avatar photo up? I tried doing that by resizing my photo to really small till it is too rediculously small and yet it's still larger than 6kB!

I would like to attach my cake photo, but how? need some advice. thanks

*I placed my order via email and yet to hear from them to confirm my roder. Tried ringing, they are too busy to answer*

hi violet

i use a website called

http://www.shrinkpictures.com/

click on the shrink avatar and an option to 'browse' should come up so click on that
then find your picture in 'my pictures' click open and i usually do mine a 100.

then when you image comes up in the boxes right click on the centred one and save it back to your pictures folder.

you can then come back to cc and in your forum info right down the bottom is the avatar option. click browse and find you resized image and open it then just submit and it should work.

sorry if this sounds confusing, it took me a few goes to work out how to use the shrink pictures website. if anyone else know an easier way please share!!!
